Rust jacket/ gold accessories

Jacket- Chadwicks via Tuesday Morning similar similar
blouse/pants- JCPenney
shoes- Old
bracelet- JCPenney option option
earrings- gift option option
worn Jan. 17, 2014

This jacket hasn't seen much wear this year but is usually a "go to" for the fall/winter season. I realized when I put it on this time I usually always wear it with brown. At least I tried a lighter color this time. Next time I'll try black but I don't want to look to  Halloween-ish.

And speaking of gold: it's so "80s" to me and I went through a phase of not liking it, but I've embraced it again.

What "old" new trends did you reluctantly embrace?

Camel skirt suit

Blazer/skirt- Cato
Sweater- Dress Barn
boots- Shoes.com
Worn Jan. 16, 2014

This is a really old outfit that I haven't been able to wear in several years but I'm glad that I held on to it.  I love the cut of the skirt. I need to work on creating some new outfits with it. It doesn't always have to stay paired with it's blazer.

All Gap

Blazer/ pants/ sweater- Gap
scarf- Target option option
shoes- Belks
worn Jan. 14, 2014

I didn't realize until I started this post that most of my outfit pieces were from Gap. I was focusing more on warmth and on giving a little color and character to a black suit.

It's back to work today after a long weekend. If you got to take the day off yesterday, I hope you enjoyed it. I did not get as much done as I would have liked, but enjoyed the break nonetheless.

Pink polka dots

                                        Inspiration                               My take

Blazer- Dorothy Perkins option
sweater/pants- JCPenney
scarf- Target option
shoes- Payless
worn Jan. 13, 2014

This out fit was inspired by one I found through pinterest. I immediately thought of these pieces even though the scarf and jacket are different. It still works and gives a pop of color to neutrals. I am combating the winter with bright colors.

Old Navy inspired

I pulled inspiration for this outfit from an Old Navy ad but used pieces I already owned. The earrings and necklace are gifts from my sweet husband, received on different occasions.

A pop of blue

Jacket- Tuesday Morning similar similar; sweater- JCPenney similar
pants- Gap similar; booties- TJMaxx
scarf- Target option
Worn Jan 8, 2014

This has become standard uniform for the cold weather. A suit or blazer and a scarf. One or the other or the blouse fills the pop of color. Just because it's cold and or raining and grey outside does not mean my world inside has to be. So add a pop of color.

New from old

Chambray shirt- Old Navy; similar similar
sweater- old- Belks similar
pants- thrifted similar
shoes- TJMaxx
Worn Jan. 5, 2014

This sweater is really old and only gets worn a couple of times per year but I can't seem to part with it. So I challenged myself to find a new way to wear it. In the past it had been worn the same way every time as if that one outfit was some uniform. (The only view I have of the old version is in this winter wrap up post.) Ugh. I hate that I had those days and so glad I learned about remixing. All I really did was change out a brown shirt for a chambray shirt. The pants are esentially the same as the old ones, but the old ones were too large after the weight loss. Just switching out the shirt makes a fresh new look.

Layers

Plaid shirt- Gap similar
long sleeve tshirt- thrifted similar
jeans- Levis jeggings similar
utility jacket- JCPenney similar similar similar
boots- Shoes.com
Worn Jan. 3, 2014

The cold snap calls for layers around here. There's no point in investing in heavy pieces that would only get worn once, if ever, so the best thing is to layer when we have record lows like last week.

Red plaid

Shirt- JCPenney; sweatshirt- Old Navy option
jeans- Levis; shoes- Target option option adorable
Worn Jan 2, 2014

I received this shirt for Christmas as a gift. Since our new year started out rainy and cold, I thought it would be a fun layer under this sweatshirt.

I'm  okay with the outfit but the photos are not doing it justice. Weird camera angles are just...well...weird. I look a little dumpy here. Since I'm being a bit critical, let me go ahead and say this. It really bothers me when I view fashion posts where the person has been photographed at a weird angle. If you really want to do this, get the right lens or learn to do the best with what you have. Notice I still have room for improvement, but I really hate those shots where someone is shooting from slightly above. It really doesn't flatter you and makes you look squatty and distorted. Is the tall hubby taking your shots? Tell him to bend down a little or get farther back. Don't set the tripod on the porch above you and then go out into the yard or street. Set it up somewhere on the same level. Just my advice and rant for the day.

Loft ad

Blazer- Dorothy Perkins option option; blouse- JCPenney;
pants- Loft ; shoes- TJMaxx option option
bracelet- JCPenney
Worn Dec. 31, 2103

Loft had an ad for these pants along with a pleated red blouse and camel blazer online when they first came out with these pants. I purchased the pants and intended to purchase the blouse, but the blouse sold out before it went to a deal I would spring for. They also had a crystal necklace on the model but that necklace sold out too. Not to worry though, with enough patience I was able to recreate my own version in due time. While I was out Christmas shopping I saw this blouse at JCPenney. It was on sale plus I had a coupon so it became mine for around $4! I already had the blazer and a necklace, so my outfit was complete. And here's a tip for you, don't ever be afraid to ask the sales clerk to check the size on the display mannequin. I needed a small in this blouse and the one on the mannequin was the only on they had, but now it's mine.

Leopard, black and grey

Jacket- thrifted option; shirt- Sears
pants- Gap; shoes- DSW option
belt- Target
earrings- gift
Worn Dec. 20. 2013
I took a cue from J's Everyday Fashion in creating this outfit in leopard, black and grey stripes. I am wearing dress pants instead of jeans because jeans aren't allowed at work. That's the beauty of "inspiration" outfits- take it and make it your own by switching out pieces.

Hot pink and leopard, take two

Blazer-thrifted   option   shirt- TJMaxx
skirt- Loft option
shoes- Cynthia Rowley via TJMaxx similar
worn Dec. 29, 2013

I decided to pair leopard and hot pink again. This time with a jacket skirt combo. It's rarely cold enough for tights but I think the tights and shooties/booties pull this together.

Hope all is well so far for you in the New Year. It's back to work for me after being off for a few days.

Shirt- JCrew factory; sweater- JCPenney similar
pants- TJMaxx similar; booties- Sears similar
necklace- Jane.com
worn Dec. 26, 2013

I have the inspiration photo pinned on my style board (are you following me? Please do)  and it gets pinned over and over again. Apparently lots of people love the look. I don't have a similar skirt and it has been too cold for bare legs, so I opted for pants. I promise the sweater is a closer match in color than the photos show- the lighting in here is throwing it off.

Black and camel

Blazer- Dress Barn; similar
top- TJMaxx option option
pants- Limited- option
shoes- Payless
necklace- Statement Boutique via groopdealz
Worn Dec. 23, 2013

I still have a few outfits from the last week of 2013 to post. How do I always get behind?  It's a good thing though, because I haven't worn anything blog worthy thus far in 2014. We stayed in all day yesterday and cooked and relaxed and I stayed in sweats. It's also been raining non-stop so I'm not motivated to dress up much.

I love camel and black together and decided to throw in the polka dot top. I was pleased with the results.
