Winter jewel tones

I like wearing jewel tones in the winter, but have not incorporated them much this season. After seeing some inspiration from Stylin in St. Louise  and hi sugarplum, I decided to it was time to bring them back into my winter attire.

Adding some color

Rust and teal seem like such a wild card pairing, but apparently The Limited thought it worked when they added this blouse to their line.

Work to play: 2 pieces 2 ways

I love having pieces that can be worn multiple ways and in multiple settings. Today we are going to talk about taking pieces from work to play, specifically this striped top and mint statement necklace. I'll  also point out a few things that make a piece more versatile.

Mixing up the mustard

Blazer- The Limited  option
blouse- The Limited  option
pants- JCPenney
shoes- TJMaxx  option  option
necklace- JCPenney  option

So far I've worn this mustard blazer with navy   and with the same top and teal pants. This time I'm pairing the two pieces with brown. Even though its the exact same top and blazer, they look different than they did with the teal. I love it when I wardrobe is this versatile.

Booties and tassels

Blazer- (old) Belk  option
tank- thrifted
scarf- Cato  option  option  option
pants- Belk  option  option
shoes- (old) Sears  option  option

This is such a fun scarf. I love it's tassels and the fact that its lightweight, so when everyone else is wrapped up in fantasy fall blanket scarves and it's 75 degrees here, I can still get my scarf fix.( See how I wore this scarf with a chambray dress last year.) This time I took it to the office with a blazer. Who says business attire can't be fun?

Ad inspired

Blazer- Belks  option
blouse- JCPenney  option  option  option
pants- Loft
belt- Target option
shoes- Belk similar

This outfit was inspired by an outfit on The Limited's website. Even though none of these pieces are from The Limited, they had similar pieces paired together on their website. I love it when I see an outfit that I like and already have the pieces to make it work. I've worn this top and pants together with a red cardigan before too. It's amazing how a color change and a few accessory changes can make a whole new outfit from two base pieces.

Are you guys ready for the weekend? for Halloween?

Hurricane break

Blazer- TJMaxx  option  option  option

I've been on a little break thanks to Hurricane Matthew. Our county started a mandatory evacuation at 7:00 a.m. last Thursday. I had just gotten the call to not report to work at 6:30 a.m. I had not yet began packing to evacuate because I thought I was going to have to go to work and we thought we might stay if Matthew stayed at level 3 or less. He kept bouncing up and down a level so we complied with the evacuation and went about 70 miles inland to my parents. They don't have the best internet service so I didn't touch anything blog related while I was there.

As soon as we got the word we could come back, we came home and fired up a generator to save the food in our fridge and freezer. We also found that our front bedroom took in water, likely from the window and maybe at the foundation. We will have to replace carpet in that room. Thanks Matt.  The frustrating thing is that we have lived with the contents of my husband's office space and some of the attic contents around us for the month prior thanks to baby brother Hermine and an AC pan that overflowed in the attic during that storm. The ceiling and attic floor had to be repaired. We were just ready to move the hubby's stuff back in his room the day we had to evacuate. Some of it got thrown in there before leaving. Now we have that stuff plus the contents of the other bedroom stacked around the house. I feel like I'm living in a flea market. But you know what? It's just stuff. And it will get repaired, and hopefully some of it NOT replaced. I'm sick of stuff after shuffling things around for a month. We really need to downsize our possessions. After this experience with this storm, I've decided that even some of the things I thought were important are not. What's important are the memories attached to them and I'll always have those memories and life experiences.

Our house is otherwise fine. We have a couple of trees down to deal with but thankfully they fell away from the house and not on it. I realize others did not fare so well through this storm and other storms. Please keep praying for everyone involved.  I'm so grateful for everything. God is good.

Now, about this outfit. I decided to add a new burgundy/wine blazer to the fall/winter wardrobe. (Did you catch my fall color series? I've got more burgundy picks in the series.) I first ordered this one from The Limited but stumbled on the one I'm wearing at TJMaxx for less money.  The other pieces are old but it's refreshing sometimes to just have one new piece to mix in with the others.

The one I didn't love

Blazer- Belk  option
top- Nordstrom   option
pants- Limited
shoes- Ann Klein  similar
bracelet- Kendra Scott

After I got this outfit on and wore it a couple of hours, I didn't like it at all. It  just didn't feel right. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's the shoes? Maybe the pants- I'm so over these pants and have just purchased a couple of new navy pairs to replace these. This length only works well with lower heels. I've never been a fan of the flare leg either. I love a good full trouser leg, but I've never been crazy about these. I've styled them multiple times on the blog, because if you work in an office environment, you will likely wear a navy suit or navy pants. I paid good money for them, so I hated to toss them right away. But I've gotten three years of wear from them, so they are going bye-bye. I'm not sure if I will ever recreate this outfit with the new navy pants either. I love the blouse and the blouse and blazer coordinate but I just don't love this. I may however try this blouse and blazer with a red skirt or pants. What do you think? Should I?

Even though I didn't love this outfit, I'm sharing it anyway, because this blog is real and this is what I really wear. You will see it all here- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Maybe someone else will love it as we all have different styles and tastes. Maybe someone can take inspiration from it, but make it better. I recently received a sweet comment from a reader thanking me for keeping it real. Thank you for your sweet comment Missy Mackenzie. This is definitely real today, lol.
