A dressy casual holiday outfit

Today I'm sharing with you what I call a dressy casual outfit. It's got just enough festive touches of lace, velvet and rich red to be perfect for the holidays.

9 to 5 Style- Lace

Welcome to 9 to 5 Style! The third  Monday of every month Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots and I will showcase a theme featuring our individual takes on a professional look. Our aim is to inspire and show professional style does not have to mean boring and without personality. We hope you enjoy our 9 to 5 Style!

It's my favorite Monday of the month! I love seeing how Jennie and I take the same item or theme and style different work outfits with it. This month Jennie chose lace. It was a good prompt for me to style this JCrew Factory lace top again. I wore it the first time here. I went with the same color scheme again, but added some pops of color. I have other ways to wear this top in mind, but you just can't beat black and white.

Lace and pearls

Blouse- old option  option
blazer- Ross  option  option
pants- Loft  option  option
necklace- vintage  option  option
earrings- Sears  option
shoes- Payless option option

I've worn this blazer and these pants together now with several combinations of blouses and accessories. Maybe it's time for a "ways to wear" post. Do you guys like those? Seeing the same piece worn many ways in a post? It's been a while since I've done one of those.

I had almost decided I didn't like this blouse anymore but I've had renewed interest in it this spring. Funny how our interest in certain things changes from time to time.

Enough mid-week rambling from me. Hope you have a great rest of the week!

I titled my post as such in part because of my blazer and in part, because I'm such a bad blogger when it comes to commenting and replying to your comments. Please know that I do appreciate your comments. I get so busy sometimes that I don't have a chance to put as much time into this little hobby as I'd like. I'm typing this now about two seconds before I hit post, and then I have to get in a workout, work, dinner for tonight because I'll be working late, there are some bills to pay....I'll stop before I exhaust you. I think you get it- we all have LIFE.

This is the second look I've created with this blush blazer. I think I'm going to be glad I finally purchased one. I love blush paired with gold. What about you? How do pair blush?

Speaking of busy- this weekend we finished the edits on a maternity/ family shoot we did a couple of weeks ago. This mama-to-be is the cutest thing ever and this couple's first child (four-legged) is such a handsome guy. You can check out the pictures here and here. If you are ever in the beautiful Golden Isles, Jekyll Island/ St. Simons area and in need of some family (or blog) photos, give us a shout.

Have a great week!

Too pretty to hide

I added this mixed media moto jacket to my wardrobe during the holiday sales. I have far more opportunity to wear office attire than casual, so I paired it with this lace top and pencil pants for an office outfit. I started out the photos with the jacket zipped, but the top is too pretty to hide so I left it open. I think the jacket will work equally well with jeans off duty.

I was way past due a trip to the hair salon last week, so I twisted and pinned my bangs back just to get by one more day. Do you have any hair tricks for those last days when you really need to go to the salon for a cut and color? The twist helped hide the ridiculous grey streak I had down the middle.

Before we launch it outfits and shopping, I want to say thank you to my readers and followers. Thank you for your kind comments and support. I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving day and got to have some quite down time with family to reflect on what's really important.

Isn't this lace top just gorgeous? Like so pretty you're afraid to wear it for fear you will mess it up? I got this during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It was too hot then to wear it, but I can finally put it in rotation now. While it's pretty for every day, I think the lace detail will make it a pretty holiday top too.

If you are not braving the crowds today and are sitting at home behind the computer like me, then make sure to peruse some of the Black Friday sales. I'm kind of excited that so many things went on sale early this week. No need to be in a mad rush this morning. I've already taken advantage of some things online and in store on Wednesday, so I've got a good chunk of the Christmas list knocked out.

Here are a few of the deals going on and my picks from each:

Ann Taylor has 50% off everything with code CELEBRATE These pearlized brooch earrings would be great for holiday wear and everyday. This ring set would be fun to have too.

JCrew is offering 30-40% offPolka dot pajamas would be perfect for relaxing after the holidays are over.

Everything is on sale at Old Navy, up to 60% off. I've been eyeing the plaid mock neck sweater.

Baublebar if offering 30% off with code THX.  Free shipping and returns is a plus too! This necklace is gorgeous.

Happy Shopping!

Floral polka dot midi and my Sheinside experience

Top-old  option  option  option
skirt- Shein (Sheinside)  option  option  option
shoes- Belks  option  option  option
clutch- thrifted
necklace- Sears  option  option
bracelet- Ann Taylor     option
sunnies- Loft      option
Worn July 19, 2015

Let me just get right to the point and tell you about my awful experience with Shein. It was Sheinside at the time of my purchase so I hope lots of things changed with the name. I ordered this skirt back in March. It took me a few months to get around to wearing it. Maybe I've been holding my grudge against the skirt. Anyway,  I see lots of bloggers posting Sheinside products with good reviews,  so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm not part of their affiliate or blogger program and I have to question those who are after this experience. I ordered two skirts and a blazer. I thought the other skirt was too long and full for me and the blazer just didn't quite fit. The policy on the website says "free returns" so I put in a ticket for my return label. Imagine my surprise when I got a response that indicated I would be paying for return shipping. Um NO that's not what the site says.
So, I get a label and mail the items back to them. OVER A MONTH LATER, I am emailing to point out that tracking shows they have had  the items back for over a month and they still have not refunded me. That is poor customer service and I will likely not do business with them again.

I got lots of compliments on this skirt and outfit, but if you take a close look, the quality is poor. The stitching in the hem in crooked and backstitched in many places. Looks like some of my own sewing. I paid someone else for this. Although, I didn't really pay much so truth to the old saying "You get what you pay for."
