9 to 5 Style- boots

Welcome to 9 to 5 Style! The third  Monday of every month Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots and I will showcase a theme featuring our individual takes on a professional look. Our aim is to inspire and show professional style does not have to mean boring and without personality. We hope you enjoy our 9 to 5 Style!

How did it get to be the third week of January already?!

This month Jennie chose boots as our theme. If you work in a super casual office, then you can get away with boots a lot easier than if you work in a conservative environment. For a conservative environment, you need to choose a sleeker boot with a heel, and not too many buckles or hardware. The easiest way to wear boots to the office is with a skirt or dress.

Old Navy haul- try on session

Happy Saturday! Instead of my usual round up I thought I'd share my recent Old Navy haul with you in the form of a try on session. Excuse the dirty mirror, messy room and wet hair. This is real life.

First up is the crochet lace yoke shift dress. It's a cute dress in a perfect color for fall. It's thin but perfect for our warm falls. My only complaint is that it's tight under the arms and has a weird fit due to the crochet top going over part of the sleeve. I'm wearing a small but might try a medium if my store has one. Other than the underarms, it fits well.

Here's the back and a close up of the texture of the top.

Hello there sweatshirt- Definitely a keeper. Super soft, not too thick and not too slouchy. Wearing a small.

Floral midi skirt- yes I layered over the dress. I wish it had pockets but it's a cute skirt with lots of potential.

Flutter sleeve waisted midi- it's longer than a midi on me. I ordered it in a regular because petite wa not available. This dress is lined and I love the sleeves. I'm undecided about the length. It would probably look better on me the length of the above skirt.

Open front tassel hem cardigan- small. The sleeves are snug on this and they don't layer well over other tops but might work well with tanks and sleeveless tops. I'm on the fence about it. The tassels tend to get tangled together too.

Happy Shopping!

Boy, if you look at that list of shops above, you can tell I will shop just about anywhere and I'm not partial to anyone. I do have places I shop at more than others, but that's quite a list up there. I got this tee at the first of the year on clearance from Banana Republic. It was too cold for it then and I forgot about it. I finally pulled it out and styled it with this midi skirt. A graphic tee and a midi skirt always make a fun combination. I added a little more glam with the red clutch and leopard heels.

Hope you are having a great week!

Lady like

Blouse- Target (old)  option  option  option

shoes- TJMaxx (old)  option   option   option
earrings- Sears  option  option

I like to experiment with different styles and trends from time to time, and one I really like is dressing up in something "lady like" for church. This skirt always fits that bill. I'm also stretching my wardrobe and looking for more ways to wear this blouse. After pairing it with the soft pink blazer, I decided it needed to be worn with this skirt. I loved how this outfit turned out.

What styles do you like to revisit?

Floral polka dot midi and my Sheinside experience

Let me just get right to the point and tell you about my awful experience with Shein. It was Sheinside at the time of my purchase so I hope lots of things changed with the name. I ordered this skirt back in March. It took me a few months to get around to wearing it. Maybe I've been holding my grudge against the skirt. Anyway,  I see lots of bloggers posting Sheinside products with good reviews,  so I thought I'd give them a try. I'm not part of their affiliate or blogger program and I have to question those who are after this experience. I ordered two skirts and a blazer. I thought the other skirt was too long and full for me and the blazer just didn't quite fit. The policy on the website says "free returns" so I put in a ticket for my return label. Imagine my surprise when I got a response that indicated I would be paying for return shipping. Um NO that's not what the site says.
So, I get a label and mail the items back to them. OVER A MONTH LATER, I am emailing to point out that tracking shows they have had  the items back for over a month and they still have not refunded me. That is poor customer service and I will likely not do business with them again.

I got lots of compliments on this skirt and outfit, but if you take a close look, the quality is poor. The stitching in the hem in crooked and backstitched in many places. Looks like some of my own sewing. I paid someone else for this. Although, I didn't really pay much so truth to the old saying "You get what you pay for."

Cold snap

We had a bit of a cold snap this weekend and I woke up to temperatures of 37 degrees Sunday morning. I know many of you have been suffering far worse than that, but for south Georgia, that's cold. It forced me to come up with one more winter outfit so the boots came out. I previously tried to pull off this shirt and scarf combination with a blazer and pants but I think this works much better this way. You need to see the stripes to appreciate the pattern mix.

Updated: I had a chance to come back and update links in this post. I'll also say that I love these new shoes. Once again I'm raving about Payless shoes. And kudos to me for wearing this denim jacket a little more. Maybe I'll finally reach a decent cost per wear with it. Now, if I could just find as much use for the white denim jacket I own.

Holiday wear

Sweater- old  option option  option
necklace- gift option
skirt- Dorothy Perkins  option  option  option
tights- old option
booties- TJMaxx  option  option option

I wore this outfit Sunday to church and to our Sunday School Christmas party afterwards. We teach a college and career age Sunday School class (18-30) and they are so much fun. They had an ugly Christmas sweater theme party but I don't have an ugly Christmas sweater and couldn't find one at a thrift, so I just went with one of my favorite sweaters. The color lends itself perfectly to the holidays.

I wore tights again for the second time this season. I think some of the below options in tights would be perfect for holiday parties:
