How to interject color in the winter

It seems like we are in full on spring now, so I doubt I will be wearing a blanket scarf any more this season. I'm grateful we did have a few cold days during our winter and I got to wear outfits like this one. I  have my Ann Taylor tee/shell underneath, so the scarf is really the heaviest warmest layer. We have to use tricks like this in the south to layer. If I had worn a sweater, it would have been too much.

It almost seems too late to share this outfit based on the weather we are having now, but maybe some of you are still having cold weather and you are looking to interject some color into the last of your winter wardrobe. A bright pencil skirt and colorful scarf are perfect ways to do that.

Hope you guys have a great week!

Burgundy, black and camel

All I want to wear this fall and winter to work are my camel blazer or burgundy blazer and grey pants. So here's the camel blazer again.

How to wear a leopard print pencil skirt to work

This is a pretty basic office look: pencil skirt, shell/tee, blazer, pumps. But this look isn't boring because the pencil skirt is leopard print.

How to wear plaid to the office- 9 to 5 Style

Welcome to 9 to 5 Style! The third  Monday of every month Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots and I will showcase a theme featuring our individual takes on a professional look. Our aim is to inspire and show professional style does not have to mean boring and without personality. We hope you enjoy our 9 to 5 Style!

It's my favorite Monday of the month- 9 to 5 Style with Jennie at A Pocketful of Polka Dots. This month we chose plaid as our theme.

Plaid can be a little tricky for a conservative office like mine. Most plaid shirts would be frowned upon at my work, so I have to stick to skirts, pants and shirt dresses in a more traditional subtle pattern.

Camel and grey

As soon as fall and winter rolls around, I break out my camel blazer. Even though it's still quite warm, I didn't waste any time breaking it out this year.

I love pairing camel with grey, and I was really pleased with the pop of burgundy with this. You can get a lot of mileage out of a camel blazer, whether you work in a conservative office environment or a more relaxed environment. It's perfect with jeans and a top for fall. I highly recommend you add a camel blazer to your closet. This is my second one.

So I missed posting on the extra day of the year. I was just too busy this weekend and had to get up and leave to early for work yesterday to make it happen. How is it that I get an extra day and still run behind?

Anyway, I continued my newly found love of camel and gray by pairing this blazer and these pants, along with a pop of leopard. This is totally a pinterest inspired outfit.

Adding interest with accessories

Blazer- Dorothy Perkins  option   option
blouse- old  option

scarf- Tuesday Morning   option   option  option   option

earrings- gift  option  option

Without this scarf, I think an outfit of a camel blazer, white blouse and brown skirt would be pretty boring. So I'm all for accessories. This scarf gives some color and interest to the outfit. I must admit, I probably wouldn't have come up with this on my own. There isn't a stitch of brown in the scarf, but with the deep burgundy and blues, it still works with brown. I was inspired by this pin and outfit created by Bridgette Raes. I went with burgundy earrings to tie in the scarf a little more.

How do you jazz up neutral pieces?

There's just something about camel and navy that make it a classic winter combination. Add plaid to the mix and it's definitely screaming winter. These pieces made for a comfy and cozy, yet polished office look. It was a great way to start this week on Monday. But I'm still glad today is Friday.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I guess we are looking forward to another weekend indoors cleaning and organizing. Funny how a new year brings that on.
