I'm featuring a navy polka dot top for work to weekend looks. I used to almost exclusively wear this top for work, but decided to use it for some casual looks in myGYPO Spring Capsule.
Welcome to 9 to 5 Style! The third Monday of every month Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots and I will showcase a theme featuring our individual takes on a professional look. This month's theme is trench coats. I featured them in my "5 Spring Jackets You Should Consider" post. They make a great spring layer for those of you that still need the layers in spring. For us, it is usually warm in the spring (83 degrees on Sunday as I prepare this post) so I don't own a trench coat. I do, however, own a sleeveless trench that allows me to have the same vibes without being too warm, so I have styled my sleeveless trenchfor you. ( If I were to get a regular trench coat, I'm swooning over this gingham trench.)
A classic black suit should be in the closet of every business woman or woman who works in a professional office environment. When I don't know what to wear to work, or don't want to think about it, my black suit is my go to. This one is one the verge of needing to be replaced. It has seen a lot of wear. I've posted many outfits with it, but also refrained from posting it many times. Sometimes it seems too boring. But sometimes it's good to have a reminder that it's okay to dress in classics.
I picked this blouse up on a whim a few months ago, but hey, it's stripes! And it adds a new twist to my black suit. I can't find it online now, but I've linked up some options.
Leopard print has become an accepted neutral. It's earthy tones pair well with most other colors and it's also a great pattern for pattern mixing. It can also easily be worn to the office, even a conservative office like mine. The key is in picking structured, classic pieces. Here are two ways to wear leopard print to the office.
Wear them together, of course. That's how to wear teal and orange to the office. Choose your orange in a nice rust shade for fall vibes. Pair a rust jacket and teal trousers, and keep the top or tee simple and plain. Add some accessories that tie it all together.
Happy Thanksgiving! It's time to bring on the turkey and pumpkin pie. I hope you have some time off to relax too. Our work always gives us the Friday after, and I'm beyond thankful for that extra day. If you do have to go back to work soon, then maybe this outfit will inspire you to play a little and relax your attire just a bit. I paired polka dots and pinstripes for a playful office look. Some faux pearls keep it polished.
I bought these pants last year and this top either last year or early this year. I spent most of last fall crushing on a blush top, but had to find one that would fit the bill for work. I specifically wanted to wear these two colors together, but I can't remember if I did or not after finally getting the pieces.

Sometimes it's fun to create an outfit from just one color. As much as I like color, every now and then I like a toned down look. This mix of greys came together nicely for me.
As I end summer and start transitioning to fall, I tend to switch to outfits that are more neutral or non-seasonal. A combo of navy, khaki, and cognac makes for one of those outfits.
