Polka dot skirt- 5 ways

I've had this polka dot and floral skirt for quite a while, but before I got into remixing or putting thought into my outfits I would only wear it with white or black. Here are five ways I've worn it since learning to remix.

Cardigan and tshirt

Today's oufit is a style swap of Modern Modesty. And a subconscious one at that. I had to work last Saturday on a somewhat emergency basis, which meant I had no clothes picked out for the day. It was supposed to be a sweat pants and tshirt house cleaning day. It was a nice day but still cool enough for sleeves, and I knew I would be outside part of the time, so I threw this together. Later, when I went through my pins, I realized the top half was this outfit that I had pinned with a slightly different shade of blue. (BTW, do you follow me on Pinterest? I'd love for you to.)

Stripes and a pop of color

Jacket- Dress Barn similar similar
shirt- Banana Republic similar
pants- JCPenney
shoes- TJMaxx
necklace/bracelet- JCPenney
Worn Feb. 19, 2014

I didn't get this post up this morning but I did manage to get in a mile and a half run plus half mile walk, iron my clothes (that should have been ironed last night), make breakfast, and throw some chicken in a crock pot before heading to a dentist appointment and then work. That counts for something, doesn't it?

It was nearing dark when I took these pics last week, so I don't think they do this outfit justice. It's just basics paired together, but it was comfortable and still professional. I added a little color with the accessories.

Clothes line outfit

Blazer- Dorothy Perkins option
Blouse- Gap option option option
pants- JCPenney
belt- Target option option
shoes- DSW
Worn Feb. 18, 2014

I know that' a weird title but I put this together because I saw the blouse and jacket hanging on the clothesline together. I've done similar outfits before, but just never thought to put these two pieces together.

Sorry rush, but I'm short on words and time this morning.

Stripes, plaid and leopard

Shirt- Forever21option
Scarf- gift option option
jeans- Levis
shoes- Target option option
Worn Feb. 17, 2014

Last week we had a holiday and the hubby and I ran a few errands. We made a trip to the Goodwill with a few donations. It was just on the verge of being warm, but still a little cool, so it was the perfect opportunity to wear this scarf that I got for Christmas but had not worn yet. I combined a little of three of my favorite things- stripes, plaid and leopard.

Pink and grey style swap

Left: Kacie's Kloset  Right: My Version

I wore this last week to work on Valentine's Day but held back posting it until today so I could share it for Style Swap since it's a spin on Kacie's outfit. I had recently pinned her outfit when I was looking for inspiration and deciding whether or not to keep this gray blazer. It ended up being a great way to wear pink on Valentine's Day too. I even did a cheesy copy of her pose, lol.

I read in People Style Watch that bucket bags were coming back, so I took my ruffled bag out of the closet and have been sporting it this week too.

Leopard and stripes

Top- Jones New York via TJMaxx similar
pants- Loft
scarf-TJMaxx option
shoes- Target
worn Feb. 16, 2014

I've been on a kick this week with stripes. That's okay- LOVE. them. I bought this shirt last year and I think I only wore it once. I finally got around to wearing it this year. I like it so I'm not sure why it doesn't get much attention. I think maybe because I have labeled it "casual" in my mind, but I could throw a blazer over it and wear it to work. I'll have to remedy that and get more wear out of it.

I was thinking of my mustard crossbody purse when I chose these shoes and then I didn't have time to grab the purse. I've got to plan ahead a little better so I can rotate out the purses more often.

Ad inspired

Jacket- Old Navy similar
sweater- Target similar
scarf- etsy option option
jeans- Levis
shoes- Payless
worn Feb. 15, 2014

I love to look at the "outfits we love" ads at Old Navy/Gap/BR. For some reason I kept overlooking this one, thinking I had no interest in it and no reason to purchase any similar piece. Then it hit me- I already own similar pieces. I purchased this jacket at Old Navy a few years back and rarely wear it as I have viewed jackets as "outer wear only" in the past and not part of an outfit. That view is changing.

I paired my version with these particular shoes because we were headed to the beach to look for sea glass balls/treasures (literally, sea glass balls hidden on Jekyll Island by locals for the public to find) and I did not think my suede booties would fair well there. I do think the outfit as a whole would look better with booties. And no, we didn't find a treasure.

Dress, work, repeat

Blazer/trousers- Gap;
sweater- Target
Worn Feb. 11, 2014

Sometimes I feel like dressing for work is one big cycle of dress, work, repeat...dress, work, repeat. And when I get tired and uninspired, I have no clue what to wear. To make it worse, I decided to wear this blazer/trouser combo but wanted to wear a different top with it. I feel like I have exhausted all the possibilities and I feel a little limited by the red dots on the sleeves of the blazer. I always worry about pairing something with this that might clash. And I have to turn the cuffs up because the sleeves are too long.

So... I searched Pinterest for navy outfits and came up with teal as a nice match for navy. So I wore this sweater with this set and it worked, but I don't find it anything to brag about. Dress, work, repeat.

Two pieces- two ways and style swap

It's Friday! Woo hoo! and that means another edition of Style Swap.  This week I chose to create my own version of Southern Curls and Pearls polka dot top and sweater outfit. I had previously pinned this with two pieces from my closet in mind. They are not the exact pieces she is wearing but close. My yellow sweater had not seen any love this year, and since we are itching for spring and I love navy and yellow, this was perfect.

Left: Southern Curls and Pearls  Right: My version

I also took these two pieces and made two looks: one for work and one for play.

Blazer/pants- Limited
Top- JCrew Factory similar
sweater- Talbots thrifted similar
shoes- Belks/ Ann Klein
Worn Feb. 12, 2014

I don't have any statement earrings but went for the bling in my necklace.

For a more casual look to wear to Wednesday night pot luck, I switched out the suit for jeans and booties. Yes, your work wardrobe can work for casual and weekends too.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be linking up here:

Teal and snakeskin

Blazer- thrifted
blouse- JCPenney (old) similar similar
skirt- JCPenney
pumps- Belk  similar
Worn Feb. 10, 2014

Snakeskin prints have not been as popular this season as past but I still love to wear this blouse. And I've had this outfit pinned forever and have been meaning to wear my version for quite some time. And yes, I pulled out the pantyhose because my legs are just too pale to be seen against black.
