Ode to summer

I wish it were not only "ode to summer" but "ode to this heat"! But alas it's not, so I will seize this opportunity to wear the things in my closet that haven't been worn yet this summer, like this cold shoulder white top.

I told you that you would start seeing a good bit of these shoes. Here they are again.  And here I am unintentionally wearing mostly Old Navy again. I purchased this blouse a couple of months ago with rewards to dip my toes into the off shoulder trend, but I've had this skirt for years. That's the good thing about repeatedly shopping a brand- their items tend to pair well together year after year.
Anyone out there in the beautiful city of Kansas City, MO? I've just returned from a three day trip there this week. It was a nice clean city with many photo opportunities. I was on a work trip so I didn't get to do and see as much as I would have liked to, but I enjoyed what I did see.

Thanks goodness it's Friday.

I was rather into pattern mixing last week. I don't know what brought that about, but it is interesting how outfit ideas come to me. Sometimes I will flat out copy someone else, sometimes I take an inspiration and make it mine. Other times, like with this, it comes to me totally on my own accord. I was actually thinking about a prompt from another blog to wear a chambray shirt with a floral skirt and it got me to thinking about my floral skirts. Being that this one has black, the idea popped into my head to wear my black polka dot popover with it. And so another Sunday church outfit was created.

When I put it on, something was missing. Ah, necklace. I was running a bit behind so this was the best I could do. I'd like to have a statement necklace with  a bit more color to go with this, but mint worked.

It rained all day Tuesday, forcing me to take pictures indoors. This is the Target skirt that I was swayed by social media to buy. I first styled it here. It really does have lots more options and I should have worn it again before now. But if I don't wear it again this season, it will get lots of wear in the fall and next winter.  Sometimes I do that. I tend to wear a new item more the next season than when I first buy it. Do you have any quirky clothing habits?

Gingham, florals and two ways to wear a skirt

Shirt- Jones New York/ TJMaxx similar
skirt- Old Navy (old) similar
shoes- Payless similar
necklace- Our World Boutique similar
Worn March 23, 2014

We had spring like temps last Sunday so I busted out the florals, gingham and new sandals. I bought this shirt last year to wear with a floral skirt, but the color was not close enough to properly print mix. So, the shirt was worn with jeans and then hung in the closet. One day while just browsing around in my closet, these two pieces caught my eye and I thought, well look, this shirt goes with that skirt. Saved! Used for it's original purpose. Of course, it can be worn many other ways, I just wanted to mix prints.

I got many compliments on this outfit at church. I was rather surprised. While I liked my look, I didn't expect anyone else to pay much attention. I wish the photos did this more justice. The lighting in this spot is really bright and bounces and reflects in all directions because of the concrete. I like this spot, but I'm having to work hard to learn to control the lighting so everything isn't so washed out. Thus, outfit photos turn into photography lessons.

And speaking of print mixing, let's talk about REmixing. This skirt has become a favorite of mine because it lends itself to so many outfits. A couple of years ago I used it as a transitional piece. (May have to do that again if we have another dip into the 30s like last week.)
