I love a chunky cable knit sweater for cold days. They just scream cozy. And I still reach for this sweater that I picked up from Old Navy last year. Here is a similar version available this year. I added this knit infinity scarf and thought it still needed a  little more interest, so I added the necklace. Do you ever layer accessories this way?

Dots on dots

This outfit was so much fun. I'll admit I got a few strange stares at the polka dot tights. How dare a forty-something year old woman dress like that? LOL. But I loved it and felt good in it all day. This outfit has been in my head since last winter and combines three of my favorite pieces- mustard cardigan, polka dot popover and this skirt. I'm glad I finally wore it.  If this popover ever returns to JCrew factory, snatch it up. Here are 9 ways I've worn it. It just won't stop.

Leopard, black, and marsala

Sweater- JCP  option  option  option

This is a pretty basic pairing- black turtleneck, trousers and scarf. What gives it a little pop is the color of the trousers and the pattern of the scarf. Booties instead of pumps still work for the office but have a little more edge too. If you've gotten bored with office attire, then rework your basic outfits with color and pattern.

Too pretty to hide

I added this mixed media moto jacket to my wardrobe during the holiday sales. I have far more opportunity to wear office attire than casual, so I paired it with this lace top and pencil pants for an office outfit. I started out the photos with the jacket zipped, but the top is too pretty to hide so I left it open. I think the jacket will work equally well with jeans off duty.

I was way past due a trip to the hair salon last week, so I twisted and pinned my bangs back just to get by one more day. Do you have any hair tricks for those last days when you really need to go to the salon for a cut and color? The twist helped hide the ridiculous grey streak I had down the middle.

5 ways to wear a faux fur vest

The faux fur vest is a piece that intimidates many. But it doesn't have to be that way. It's a matter of finding what works for you. I don't care for heavy thick "hairy" looking vest, but I snatched this one up on clearance four years ago and I haven't looked back. It works for me. Whatever your preference in a vest, here are five ways to wear it.

1. Over a sweater
2. With a sweater dress
3. With black
4. With plaid and jeans
5. With a pencil skirt and booties

The possibilities are endless. I have three more vest outfits in mind that I haven't worn yet.

Saturday shopping - Nordstrom sale picks

Nordstrom sale picks

Happy Saturday! I hope your new year is going well so far. There are a couple of days left to shop the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale, so I thought I'd share some of my picks. These are based on some similar items I have that work well for my wardrobe and a couple of things that are just for fun. Whether you're getting much needed basics or a few splurges, sale time is always the best time to make these purchases.

Tweed coat- This will go with everything, casual and business outfits.
Pleione top- Love these. They can be paired for casual wear (as seen here) , or dressed up for work ( as seen here).
Earrings- why not?
Cowl neck tunic- great with leggings. I love a cowl neck and this color is irresistible.
Riding boots- I have these in the wide calf size. Comfortable. (Styled here.)
Tote- I use one everyday to get my stuff to and from work.
Cardigan- throw it on over that Pleione top.
Poncho- Always a fun winter piece.
Ankle booties- this style goes well with both casual and dressier outfits.
Glitter Toms- 'cause we can always use a little sparkle in our day.

Happy Shopping.

Thank goodness it's Friday! It seems like it hasn't slowed down since the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Get prepared for an overload of plaid for the next few posts. I've had several casual events lately and plaid is my fall/winter go to. When it's not all that cold, this shirt is a go to because it's a nice cotton vs a flannel. I paired it with this vest that I thrifted a couple of years ago. I know I sound like a broken record, but I love vests, I just struggle to style them. I used a little pinterest inspiration for this. Plaid and suede shouldn't require inspiration. It works so well it ought to be an instant go to, but I overlook the obvious. Here's a pin to reality shot:

Have a great weekend!
