Fair isle prints have been around for a long time but seem to be really popular this season. I've seen lots of fair isle looks on bloggers this week. I promise I'm not just jumping on the fair isle blogger bandwagon. I wore this Sunday to run errands. I've had this sweater for a couple of years, but this is the first time it's made the blog. Too often it's dark when I change into more casual clothes in the evening, so some of my outfits just never make the blog.

It was actually cold enough for another layer, so I threw this light field jacket on over my sweater. I like the navy/burgundy combination with the pink and grey peeking out.

Did you know there really is a place called Fair Isle? And the origins of these knitting patterns can be traced there.

Saturday shopping - Nordstrom sale picks

Nordstrom sale picks

Happy Saturday! I hope your new year is going well so far. There are a couple of days left to shop the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale, so I thought I'd share some of my picks. These are based on some similar items I have that work well for my wardrobe and a couple of things that are just for fun. Whether you're getting much needed basics or a few splurges, sale time is always the best time to make these purchases.

Tweed coat- This will go with everything, casual and business outfits.
Pleione top- Love these. They can be paired for casual wear (as seen here) , or dressed up for work ( as seen here).
Earrings- why not?
Cowl neck tunic- great with leggings. I love a cowl neck and this color is irresistible.
Riding boots- I have these in the wide calf size. Comfortable. (Styled here.)
Tote- I use one everyday to get my stuff to and from work.
Cardigan- throw it on over that Pleione top.
Poncho- Always a fun winter piece.
Ankle booties- this style goes well with both casual and dressier outfits.
Glitter Toms- 'cause we can always use a little sparkle in our day.

Happy Shopping.

It got cold for about half a day, so of course I rushed to wear the flannel, boots, and tights. I wore this to church the Sunday before Christmas. Green was my go to holiday color last week. I boycotted red. I have a love hate relationship with red. I digress. Back to the outfit- I really liked it even though I'm clashing the green/navy plaid with a black stripe. For some reason, my closet didn't seem to have the perfect shirt for this outfit, so I went with what I had. As much as I liked this, I was sweating by the time I got home. The cold front was short lived and it's been in the high 70s to 80s since. Yep, we're at day 9 of continuous hot weather in December.

We had a slight dip in the temps a couple of weeks ago. I went out for my morning run and it was in the 40's. I thought I could get away with wearing this on a quick shopping trip but by the time I dressed and left the house, the temps had risen back up to the high 60s/70 and I was roasting in this. I also didn't plan on shopping for me, just Christmas gifts for others. But I found a great sale on some slim leg pants and just had to try them on. I don't recommend wearing this many layers and boots if you are going shopping and will be trying on clothes. Just sayin.

Plaid dress

I warned you a few posts back that there would be an overload of plaid for a bit. Here's yet another plaid item- my plaid shirt dress. I think I'll wear it with a fur vest next.

The cardigan I'm wearing is currently on sale and comes in petite. I have to be careful about proportions so often petite sizes work better for me. Items such as the longer cardigans can be overwhelming and make me feel frumpy but I have been enjoying this one so far.

Happy Hump Day!

I wore this to our church's Thanksgiving supper last month. One of the girls in our college age Sunday School class said she had on a similar outfit and her brother told her she looked like a lumberjack. I laughed, lovingly smacked him on the shoulder and told them both he knows nothing about fashion. Lumberjack or not, I love this combination of buffalo plaid and herringbone. This combination is all over pinterest so I certainly can't take credit for coming up with. I'm just doing what everyone else is doing.

Here are two more ways I've worn this shirt:

This shirt would also look great layered under a sweater or sweatshirt as I did here and here with a similar plaid shirt.

We finally had a day cool enough to wear riding boots. My hubby bought me a cognac pair last Christmas. I have a black pair, and I have tall black and brown boots with heels, but I needed a cognac pair to complete the collection. I guess I could say I need an over the knee pair to complete the collection, but we will leave that alone for now. Unfortunately, the pair I picked out last year didn't fit. I returned them and I didn't replace them until the Nordstrom sale this year. Do you know how long ago that was? I have had to wait all this time to wear these boots, lol.

This outfit was one of the GYPO fall style challenge outfits. Of course that was in late September and October and I didn't get to wear this outfit then. It is nice to have some ideas on hand for later. I wore this for my in-laws Thanksgiving a couple of weekends ago. It's a great outfit for Thanksgiving if you go casual- stretchy leggings or jeans and an untucked shirt and long cardigan to hide that food baby.
