Velvet for spring and Five for Friday

This is another outfit I wore during our warm spell in February. It was so warm I didn't need sleeves or another layer, and I had yet to wear this velvet tee. I thought the material would keep it season appropriate at the time.

Shopping day outfit

Blouse- Ralph Lauren (thrifted)  option  option
jeans- Loft
shoes- Payless   option  option  option
necklace- online boutique  splurge   option  option

I had a day off last week for an out of town doctor's appointment. I knew I would be dressing and undressing so a casual button up was the way to go. Plus, doctor visits are no fun so I had to reward myself with a little shopping afterwards, and button ups make trying on clothes easier for me. No pulling shirts over the head and worrying about getting make-up on them. Easy slip on ballets flats,  a long necklace that slips easily over the head and comfy jeans complete a shopping outfit. A crossbody bag also makes hands free shopping. My bag isn't pictured because it bit the dust that day. It was promptly replaced with a new saddlebag crossbody (similar to this one in tobacco).

 Speaking of shopping, I walked the mall but only made two purchases- these shorts from Loft (still 50% off)  and these (in tearose, they're still on sale too) from JCPenney. You can see these from JCPenney on Instagram now and hopefully I'll be styling the striped ones soon.

A whole mall- and nothing really spoke to me. I guess I'm happy with my current wardrobe or just unwilling to pay full prices. I don't know. Shopping in store didn't do much for me although I have since stalked some store websites for sales on a couple of things that did catch my eye. I just found it odd that I had money saved up and spent less than $50. Maybe it just took that day to get the creative juices flowing.  Hubby and I hit a Tanger outlet last weekend and I had a field day in the Loft outlet. I've also made some Old Navy rewards purchases from the local store, but I think I've come to the conclusion that I like online shopping better than in store. What about you? How do you like to shop?

I need...

shirt- TJMaxx; shorts- thrifted;
shoes- Ross; bracelets- gifts
worn Aug. 17, 2013

A chunky gold chain to wear with this outfit or some shorter necklaces. Well, really it's a want but strong one. Since I didn't have a necklace, I opted for an arm party with gold bracelets I've had since I was a teenager.

I recently purchased these shorts from a thrift shop and although they are a bit long, they will carry through fall nicely. Especially since fall here stays in the 80s. And I also recenlty purchased these cap toe flats with gold chain detail. I'm in love.

Cardigan- Old Navy; t-shirt- TJMaxx;
pants, belt, shoes- Target
brooch- Whippy Cakes
Worn Feb. 3, 2013

I'm still struggling to post over here, but maybe, just maybe one day there will be a  little extra time and I will catch up. Who am I kidding? It's May 1 and I'm pulling outfit pics from February. Anyway, this was fun to wear. A long time ago I would not have dared to wear this-  it doesn't match, lol. Oh how times have changed.

Copycat

Shirt- thrifted; jeans- Nine West vintage/ Belk's;
Belt/ shoes- Target
Worn Jan.21, 2013

I copied this look straight from this pin. I had so many plans for these jeans, but didn't get to wear them much. I think they are getting retired for the spring and summer, so maybe in the fall I'll try to get the other outfits together. But I may be buying new jeans by then- I've lost 15 pounds and a whole size, so I doubt they fit well. Baggy clothes are just as frustrating as ones that fit too tight. I'm not complaining about the loss, but I need to do a closet overhaul now. I guess that's a good problem.

Where have I been?

Sweater/ jeans- JCPenney (similar) (similar);
shirt/shoes- Target
necklace- Groopdealz
Worn Jan. 12, 2013

Hi all. March 1 my Daddy was admitted to the hospital following a heart attack. Two days later my  mother was admitted to the same hospital with heart related problems (she has an existing condition that medication is no longer helping). Three days later my Daddy was transferred to another town and hospital for a triple bypass. I don't live in the same town as my parents or the hospitals, so I've been on the road and all over southeast Georgia.

Needless to say, I have been doing well just to be dressed. Blogging about it wasn't even a consideration. My daddy is now home and recovering well. My mother is home too, but has a surgery ahead of her in two weeks. Please pray for my family. I'll pop in as time allows.

And I'll have to admit while I'm here, I purchased these pink jeans because of some outfits I saw on pinterest. I was really on a hunt for red, but decided these would do. I think they will be fun for spring.

Aqua bubble necklace

Cardigan- Tillys; shirt- Target;
Bubble necklace- GroopDealz;
jeans- Levis; shoes- Target

I bought myself two bubble necklaces last November- this one and a black one. Oddly, I've worn the black one more than this one, but I love the pop of color. Maybe that's a new challenge- to wear this necklace more.

Pinstripes and ballet flats

Jacket-thrifted (similar) (similar); shirt- Sear's (similar);
jeans- Levis; shoes- Target (similar)
worn Nov. 10, 2012

This look was inspired by a Gap look.

I changed up the colors a little but I love the relaxed look of a button up, jeans, flats, and a blazer. The problem is I don't totatally love this blazer. I love it on the hanger and it has some great detail, but I don't love it on me. I've decided it works better with jeans than to try and force it to be a "business dress" piece, but I'm still not happy. I think it's the fit I'm not happy with but I'm not sure if I can have it tailored.

Mustard cardigan

Cardigan - Tilly's (similar); shirt- Target (similar);
pants- TJMaxx; shoes- Target (similar)
Worn Nov. 4, 2012

I searched and searched for a mustard cardigan for almost two years. I love that color for fall. Everytime I would find the right shade, it would be sold out. I finally scored one from Tilly's and wore it for the first time with navy.

I saw the above photo at The Budget Babe and knew right away I had to recreate it. I already had all the pieces in my closet. This is one of those outfits I felt really good in. Do you have those? The ones you know you really rock?

Houndstooth flats

Blazer- thrifted; pants- Belk's;
shirt- TJMaxx; shoes- Target
Worn Sept. 28, 2012

I know you're not used to seeing me on Fridays but since I'm a little behind, I thought I'd post today. This is probably the last of the hot pink blazer until spring/summer. I wore it one more time at the end of September with another combination of grey and black, but this time I wore my houndstooth ballet flats. I had fun all day in these shoes.
