Summer brights and favorites

Every now and them I break out of a rut and try something different. Like this headwrap/ headband. I love the look on others but I'm never quite sure of myself when I wear one. But one thing I'm sure of is white jeans. Every outfit combination I think of lately involves white jeans or white trousers for work. I've had to keep myself in check to keep from wearing them over and over.

Wedges

I have been embracing wearing wedges with shorts. I typically only wear them with skirts and jeans, but thanks to the GYPO Summer challenge I am embracing the wedges with shorts. Top photos are the Day 1 outfit- vest, flowy tank, print shorts, and wedges. I have an issue with the flowy tanks, really with tank tops in general. I don't like the way I look in tanks and if I'm bearing arms, I'd rather have more chest and back covered. So I guess I'm really a sleeveless blouse gal instead of a tank top gal. And even them I'm picky about sleeveless tops because if the edge cuts in the wrong place, I just look "round".

Below is a look with the wedges based on one of the Summer 2014 challenge outfits. I will say the necklace and wedges elevate the tee+ khaki shorts a bit. And I actually went shopping in this.

A personal challenge

Shirt- Target  option
shorts- Old Navy  option   option   option
necklace/earrings- Sears   option  option
shoes- Belks  splurge   option
worn May 25, 2015

I got these shorts on clearance at the end of last summer. I wore them once with a blue and grey graphic tee. I pulled them back out recently to take inventory for this summer. All I could think of for ways to wear them was with blue, grey or white. So I challenged myself to come up with something different. Lime green tee! Paired with the necklace, I think it ties together well. Now I think I could pair these with any bright color- coral, red, hot pink...what do you think?

Also, wearing the tall wedges with shorts is first for me too. Hey, where did I get those legs? I think they make me look taller and like I have long legs. I'm still not sure if I'm really comfortable with it. I've always stayed on the safe side with lower heels or flats with shorts, especially shorter ones. These are 5 inch inseams and about my limit on the short side. After all, I am over 40.

Hope you had a great weekend!

Chambray and eyelet

skirt- TJMaxx (old) option option option option
shoes- Belk's option option option
necklace- Our World Boutique option
worn July 20, 2014

I was happy to see eyelet back as a trend this spring and summer because I was already set. I have owned this skirt for several years as part of a matching suit. The jacket doesn't see much wear anymore, but the skirt is still a great piece. It was perfect to pair with two other trendy items- chambray and a statement necklace. Sometimes it's too much to have too many trends in one outfit, but I think this works.

Summer wedges

shirt- Loft similar option
skirt- Talbots (thrifted) option option
shoes- Belks (old) option option
worn June 22, 2014

I only got to take a few pictures Sunday before it starting raining. And it was a total down pour. I bought these shoes on clearance a few years back. They get worn a few times each summer. They are not my "go to" wedges but I think I like them more each time I wear them.

Summer dress

dress- Old Navy option option
shoes- Old Navy option option
necklace- JCrew factory
bracelets- DIY
Worn May 4, 2014

So glad it's time to break out the spring/summer dresses, even though I still cover up with a cardigan or jacket. Even though most of this ensemble came from Old Navy, I bought these pieces at different times, with no idea of wearing them together. Love it when something does come together this easily.

Red lips

Cardigan- Old Navy option
skirt- thrifted option
shoes- Belks similar
clutch- Target option
Worn April 13, 2014

My lips are really red in these photos, partly because the lighting is washing out the other colors. Oh well. I cannot take any credit for this outfit. It's a total copy of Petite Career Girl. I would have never thought to pair mint and red and definitely not with the stripes. But I love it! I made it my own version with a lighter color clutch and wedges.

Happy Easter! I wish you all the joy and peace this day brings!

Leather tote

Top-Loft; jeans- Old Navy;
shoes- Old Navy
tote- Banana Republic

I splurged and bought this tote with my birthday money and some rewards back in July. I love it. I didn't know if I would like a large open tote but I do. I find things much easier in here than a regular purse. Another random thing about this outfit- I've had this shirt for a least a couple of years and have only worn it once; however, I think I'm going to put it into regular rotation.

Open weave

Sweater - Gap (similar); tank- Old Navy
skirt- Old Navy (similar) shoes- Ross
worn Aug 4, 2013

I wore this last month and it was way too hot for this outfit. A sweater with holes does not necessarily mean you will be cool. Besides the fact that I nearly melted in this, I'm having a love/hate relationship with this sweater. I'm not really happy with the fit. It's too large around the middle.

This is just one of those outfits that didn't turn out to be what I'd hoped. I'd hoped to recreate a look like this one by Kendi but who am I kidding? she's probably a half a foot taller than me, so what looks good on her, looks a little dumpy on me.  Live and learn.

Maxi skirt

Shirt- Loft; skirt- Belk;
necklace- JCPenney
shoes- Old Navy
Sorry about the wonky text today. I'm away from my regulary computer and working with what I've got. This is another take on this colorful maxi skirt. I like this version better than the first time I wore it.

Seersucker

Shirt- Old- TJMaxx; skirt- Talbots (thrifted) (seersucker dress)
shoes- Old Navy
earrings and necklace- Target
Worn Sept. 15, 2013

Three of the guys in my office have seersucker suits and I almost purchased the Banana Republic version for women this year but decided it would just be a pricey joke. However, $3 for a skirt from Talbots was a deal I couldn't pass up. I had to go ahead and wear it because it's very "summer" and summer is coming to an end soon.
