Soft wide leg pants

These pants fit two of my favorite categories for summer pants- soft pants and wide leg pants. When it's hot out but I need to wear pants, I turn to these. Soft wide leg pants are breezy and cool, yet easy to dress up.

Wide leg pants

About 15 years ago I had a similar pair of soft wide leg pants. They were my favorite. They had a tiny white flower print on them and I wore them with a white top. And that's the only way I wore them back then. I had no concept of remixing a wardrobe. If I bought a top to go with certain bottoms, that's the only way those pieces were worn. Needless to say, I didn't have very many "outfits".  Oh how much wiser I am now that I'm in my 40s.

You can bet I'll be wearing these with other tops and creating more outfits out of each piece, but I could not resist starting out with this white top. I've been looking for a new white top. I have a couple of white tees, but I really wanted a white top that had a little more interest. I popped in Cato a few days ago and this one caught my eye. I don't think it was "the" white top I was looking for, but it had to come home with me because of it's fun fringe trim. I also like the little Vs in the back. These wide leg pants are going to be a summer staple too, especially when shorts aren't an option. They are soft, cool, and comfortable. I'm glad I took advantage of the Old Navy sale during Memorial Day and cashed in some rewards for these pants.

How is it August already? I still have a week's worth of outfits from July to share. Oh well, I'm a bit behind. What's new about that?

I've been wanting to wear my print jogger pants in a dressier outfit since last year, but I needed the perfect top. I added this top during the spring, so for my birthday dinner out ( a week and a half ago), I paired these pieces and added a little wedge sandal. Done. Dressed up joggers.

I've previously worn these pants with sneakers and casual sandals in a  more sporty chic look:

Aztec track pants

I bought this shirt last week at Forever21 when I had a chance to go to a store. It comes in other colors (cobalt, red) but I cannot find it online. I have been looking for a perforated or open weave piece to add to my wardrobe and this one fit my needs.

Now let's talk more about these pants. I bought them on the same trip. I was not trying to create an outfit with the two pieces, but they work together for a sporty chic look. What I was looking for was a pair of "soft pants". When track pants hit the scene, I instantly said "no" to myself. Just one of those pieces that no matter how you wear them, they are still what they are- track pants, and track pants are not an item of fashionable wear (like flip flops- sorry ladies, well talk about that later.) I was not going to go there. But I was growing more interested in a soft flowy pair of pants. About 15 years ago, I had a pair- black with a little flower print- and I wore them ALL THE TIME. I LOVED THEM. So comfortable and easy to dress up or down. So I definitely wanted to get back in on that trend (isn't it funny how trends come around in 10, 15, 20 or even 30  year waves?)
I found some pants that I liked in the juniors department (should I admit that? I'm 40.) The funny thing is I ended up liking the elastic bottom ones that are like track pants more than the others. So here you have it, I'm wearing track pants. And they are so comfortable, I think I'm in pajamas.
