Red, white, and blue for work or play

With the Fourth of July coming this weekend, I thought it be fun to round up ways to dress in red, white and blue. It's a classic combination I go to year round, not just for patriotic holidays. All of these are from my archives:

Olive and red

Shirt- Loft (old) option
shorts- TJMaxx option option
shoes- Payless  option option
necklace- Forever 21 option
bracelet- Lulus option

I'm so happy for fall to be here but so confused about what to wear. It's comfortable enough for these shorts today, but by late evening I may want another layer. I guess I better be thinking about those transitional outfits because this is 27 of the 30x30 remix. Only three more days/outfits to go!

A flats day

Blazer- Sears option option
blouse- JCPenney option option
pants- JCPenney option
necklace- gift option
shoes- Ross option option
Worn June 4, 2014

I was inspired by Danielle of Goodwillista to put these pieces together. I think the shoes tie it all together. Even though I don't have cap toe pumps, I have flats, and sometimes, it's just a flat shoes kind of day. This is the same beige blazer in my beige blazer- 4 ways post. It's a such a versatile piece.

Red pencil skirt- six ways

                                 1             2            3           4             5             6

A pencil skirt is one of those must have wardrobe items. They flatter everyone and can be worn so many ways. Don't limit yourself to neutrals either. A fun bright pencil skirt can be versatile too. Here are six ways I wear my red pencil skirt.

Basics and statements

Blazer/ pants- Loft
shirt- thrifted option
shoes- thrifted
earrings- Sears option
bracelet- JCPenney
Worn March 20, 2014

Blush/red... red/taupe... both great combinations in my opinion and I subtly worked them into one outfit.  Sometimes I like to go 'all business" and then again I like to take basics like these and punch them up with bold statement pieces like the earrings and bracelet and some fun shoes.

Stripes, plaid and leopard

Shirt- Forever21option
Scarf- gift option option
jeans- Levis
shoes- Target option option
Worn Feb. 17, 2014

Last week we had a holiday and the hubby and I ran a few errands. We made a trip to the Goodwill with a few donations. It was just on the verge of being warm, but still a little cool, so it was the perfect opportunity to wear this scarf that I got for Christmas but had not worn yet. I combined a little of three of my favorite things- stripes, plaid and leopard.

Comfy light layers

Cardigan- JCPenney
long sleeve tshirt- JCPenney
jeans- Levis
scarf- Target
shoes- Old Navy
worn Feb. 2, 2014

I usually dress up for church, but some days I just don't feel like it. Sunday was one of those days where I just wanted to be comfortable. The temperature shift left me clueless about what to wear. I knew I needed light layers because it would be warm in the afternoon. So, I popped over to my pinterest style board and saw this pin. It was one of those aha moments where I realize I have similar items in my closet and they are so simple I would have totally overlooked wearing them together. Done. Dressed.

Red cardigan

Sweater/skirt- Belks
shoes- Ann Klein via Belks
tank- Target

With Christmas on the brain, I'm still wearing a lot of red. I was inspired by this pin to put these pieces from my closet together. I usually think of this skirt as a summer skirt only but with a long sleeve cardigan, it works for our mild winters.

I don't have red shoes but almost came home with a pair of red patent peep toe pumps the other day. (They didn't fit).

One for you, two for me

Blazer- Belk's (old)
top- Target
pants- JCPenney
belt- thrifted option; necklace old option option
purse- Nine West (Tuesday Morning) option option
Worn Dec. 6, 2013

Christmas shopping goes like this for me- one for you, one for me. One for you, oh, two for me. I can't seem to resist buying myself things if I see them and know they will not be around later if I put them on a wish list for someone else. Like this red purse at Tuesday Morning. It's already a close out item and they will not get any more of them. I have red on the brain because of Christmas so it came  home with me. And I have proudly carried this purse around for  a week now. It was only $30 so we're at $5 per day and the cost is dropping.

Red, white and blue

Shirt- JCrew Factory; skirt- Forever 21 (similar)
shoes- TJMaxx
necklace- Sears
Worn Oct. 20, 2013

I know it's fall and this is a rather summery look, but it doesn't quite feel like fall yet. Maybe tomorrow when I wake up it will be in the 40s like they predict and we will think it's fall until lunch time when it will probably be back in the high 70s and 80s. No one around here is really thinking fall so I went ahead and wore my creation of this outfit by Shanna. When I saw her post, I immediately knew this was something I could do with these items already in my closet. It just takes a while to get around to wearing all the great outfits because this isn't something I would likely wear to work. I wore it to church.

Red and grey

Top- Forever 21; skirt- Old Navy (similar)
sandals- TJMaxx (similiar)
necklace/earrings - Sears (similar)
Worn Aug. 31, 2013

I love red and grey together, so I was pretty excited to put this outfit together. I'm also glad I kept this skirt. It has been in and out of the donate pile so many times. It looks much better on now 15 pounds lighter so I'm glad I kept it. I can wear it through the fall and winter with tights and boots. I've been saying that for the past couple of years, but it might just happen this year now that I'm more comfortable in it.

Red stripes

Shirt- Forever 21 (similar); skirt- Old Navy(similar)
shoes- Belk (similar)
clutch- Target
Worn Aug. 11, 2013

Too hot here for the scarf in my inspiration photo, but nonetheless, I was pleased with this look after it was put together.  My shoes are totally different, but isn't that what inspiration is supposed to be? Use what you have, not copy exactly.
