Off shoulder top and wide leg pants

I recently blogged about a printed pair of linen blend wide leg pants. I also purchased these linen wide leg pants the same day. They have a tiny stripe and are the comfiest things. It's getting awfully hot here (98, over 100 index) but these will be a great option for pants in the heat. The wide leg allows for some air flow.

This top is a new purchase as well. I just had to get on the off shoulder band wagon. I'm not sure that I'm sold that it's for me. The top doesn't want to stay put when I move and I'm not one to fuss with clothing. I will say that I do like that this top has structure and is not too flowy. The flowy ones tend to make me look bigger. Most folks have been pairing their off shoulder tops with tassel earrings, but really any pair of dangle statement earrings will work.

Wide leg pants

About 15 years ago I had a similar pair of soft wide leg pants. They were my favorite. They had a tiny white flower print on them and I wore them with a white top. And that's the only way I wore them back then. I had no concept of remixing a wardrobe. If I bought a top to go with certain bottoms, that's the only way those pieces were worn. Needless to say, I didn't have very many "outfits".  Oh how much wiser I am now that I'm in my 40s.

You can bet I'll be wearing these with other tops and creating more outfits out of each piece, but I could not resist starting out with this white top. I've been looking for a new white top. I have a couple of white tees, but I really wanted a white top that had a little more interest. I popped in Cato a few days ago and this one caught my eye. I don't think it was "the" white top I was looking for, but it had to come home with me because of it's fun fringe trim. I also like the little Vs in the back. These wide leg pants are going to be a summer staple too, especially when shorts aren't an option. They are soft, cool, and comfortable. I'm glad I took advantage of the Old Navy sale during Memorial Day and cashed in some rewards for these pants.

I didn't realize until I started putting this post together that every single clothing item is from Old Navy. They were all bought in different years. I guess this is proof of how repeated shopping from a retailer pays off- their pieces go together year after year.

You saw these wedges in my last post. Once the temps rise, they go on repeat, but I'm afraid I need to be looking for a new pair. Any day the little piece on the buckle strap or the strap itself is going to break. I just don't want to part with them. It's difficult to find wedges that don't make your feet slide forward out of the shoe, but these are the perfect angle. What items do you have like that? the perfect piece you don't want to part with?

Last weekend I wore this to visit our families for Mother's Day. You've seen me wear this top many times in my business wear, but it makes a cute casual top too when paired with other casual items. I had to play on the "butterfly theme" and add a butterfly bangle.

Brighten my day

A sunny yellow dress and some bright statement jewelry are just the thing to brighten my day. I was inspired by Molly to wear my denim jacket and wedges with this dress. I usually wear this as a dressier look, but I like the casual vibe going on here. It was cool enough for the jacket but I added a necklace instead of a scarf because I knew it would get pretty warm in the afternoon.

Who has inspired you lately? and what brightens your day?

When it comes to print mixing, I love gingham and floral prints together. This shirt paired perfectly with this tiny floral print dress. Our temps took a 15- 20 degree drop over the weekend, so this was the perfect Sunday outfit for a beautiful day. Warm, but not hot, with a tease of fall coming.

I would have normally went for blue or green accessories with an outfit like this but I chose a white bead necklace and a pair of yellow bead earrings. The yellow makes a nice little pop of color with the green and blue.
