It's all her fault

I know that many of you are plowing snow right now, so you're probably wondering why I'm in short sleeves. You see, it was 80 degrees everyday from Christmas to New Years and I wore this last week after picking the vest up from the tailor. It was perfect for the weather we were having. If I wear this vest this week, I'll be layering it over a turtleneck since it was 45 degrees this morning and is supposed to be 30 tomorrow.

And who's fault is it anyway? Rachelle at pink sole kept blogging about it this vest and the last time she did I noticed it was on major sale. It's one of those pieces I admire for a while yet it intimidates me as to how to style it, so I definitely won't pay full price for it. I ended up getting it for $7.41 after discounts and rewards, and even with a trip to a tailor (it runs large and sizes were limited by the time I made up my mind)  it's only a $17.41 investment. Rachelle also gave lots of ways to style it, so I took the plunge. If I can get past being intimidated, I know it will be a great work piece, because I pretty much have to wear an outer garment most days and sleeveless is much cooler.

I bought this vest a few years back before they were even popular and have struggled to style it and wear it. As long vests and sleeveless blazers  become more popular, it has become a little easier for me to style. Yet, I have several vests of all kinds in my closet and they are not my "go to" pieces. I do like them but just can't remember them or figure them out for me. I like how this outfit turned out. I think it's the color combination I like. I'm a burgundy/oxblood/marsala fan.

Do you have a certain piece of clothing you love but find it to be a challenge for you?

That's probably a cheesy post title, but I'm a little short on time. Why does losing that one hour make you feel like you lost a week and are suddenly behind? Actually, the time change was good for us. It was over 70 yesterday afternoon and we got lots of yard work done. We are ready for spring and ready for everything to blossom. But yard work meant no blog post until this morning so here I am rushing to get this up.

It was not quite as warm Saturday so I wore this on an outing. I've actually worn a version of the top/vest a couple of times and just haven't managed to get photos.

Other ways I've worn this vest:

Elbow patches

I love it when I can try a trend without spending a lot. Such is the case with this elbow patch shirt. Elbow patches seem to be popular this fall, so when I found this shirt on clearance at Target, I scooped it up. The fact that it is plaid made the decision even easier.

My go to casual shoes this fall have been my riding boots. They are quite comfortable and work with jeans, leggings and skirts. Do you have a pair? A brown pair is on my wish list.

Here is another look for the sleeveless blazer that I had to copy. This one I was able to turn into a work appropriate outfit by swapping jeans for trousers. Luckily the top was already in my closet and the vest gave it new life as it has not been worn in a while.

There is a bird in that cage

Sweater- Gap similar
Vest- Ralph Lauren-thrifted splurge
skirt-thrifted similar

The last time I wore this skirt, I was not at all pleased with the results so I hung it back in the closet and it's been there for what seems like forever. I do love the pattern and rich colors so I started thinking about wearing it again. I had eyed both the skirt and vest in the closet and decided they would go together nicely.

I wore this to church and afterwards we had lunch with a couple with a small child who decided to check out my necklace. She climbed into the seat beside me and looked into my necklace and exclaimed "there's a bird in there." And yes, there is.

I'm struggling for a catchy post title so we'll just move on. I wore this to my Christmas gathering at the in-laws. I'm becoming more and more fond of my vests this season. I've had this one for years- quilted has come back around.

A military vest with lace seems an unlikely combination, but in this anything goes world of fashion, it works. The lace keeps the vest and overall look feminine. While the rest of the country was freezing, we were having a heat wave, so yes, I really wore this last Saturday.

Suede, plaid, and denim

Shirt- Sears (similar); vest- Lauren Ralph Lauren-thrifted (option)
skirt- thrifted
boots- shoes.com (option)
Worn Nov. 3, 2013

I initially planned to wear this shirt and skirt together with a pair of black heels, but then the weather was cool enough for boots and another layer so I added the vest. I love vests and have way too many thrifted vests in my closet because 'it's a vest" but I could not leave this one- Lauren Ralph Lauren ?! looks like new?! $8?! Had to have it.  Loved the layers of the skirt too, it's a bit more "dressy" than the average denim skirt.
