If you are looking for a basic piece that adds some punch, look no further than a black and white striped tee. There are thousands of ways to wear it, well okay, maybe just a few hundred, but it's a must have item in my opinion. All of  the pieces in this outfit are what I call basics but together with some quirky fun shoes and accessories (how cute and fun are these earrings ?), they make a not so basic outfit.

Here's a look back at the last time I wore these shoes:

Boyfriends and oxfords

Shirt- JCrew Factory  option  option
jeans- Loft
necklace- gift
shoes- JCPenney  option
Worn Oct. 28, 2014

I started the day in this blouse with a navy suit and heels for work, but had a half day off for an appointment. I went home and changed into these comfy boyfriend jeans and oxfords. I fought the boyfriend jeans trend up until I finally purchased these in the spring. The first pair had no distressing. The distressing finally won over on me and I purchased this pair. They have minimal distressing but still lend themselves to a put together look (vs "thrown away"). Some gals do a great job of styling jeans with both knees torn and lots of holes, but I just don't think they fit my lifestyle and activities.

I also fought the oxford trend when it first came back. I had a pair of white ones when I was 13. (I'm over 40 now.) All of those trends from my awkward teen years were just too much of a reminder of those years to embrace right away. However, add some shine or sparkle, and I'm in. I got this pair during a sale with coupons for $15 so I think I'll get my cost per wear from them, even though they were bought just for fun.

Oxblood and faux fur

shirt- Old Navy; vest- Belk's;
pants - Target; shoes- Target
Worn Nov. 25, 2012

After getting these pants hemmed, I put them to good use. I think I wore them twice in a week. The first time you saw them, many of you thought they were part of a suit. Nope. Just a fun pair of pants all by themselves.

I do iron, really

Jacket, pants- Sears; blouse- TJMaxx,
shoes- Target
Worn: Jan. 24, 2012

My suit looks horribly wrinkled, but I promise I ironed. This is one of those go to suits that I wear when I need to be active at work. It is comfortable. I've  worn it far more times than I've posted it, but I have shown it HERE before.

I'm going to go iron tomorrow's outfit now, just to be on the safe side.

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day. I almost forgot since this post obviously has nothing to do with Valentine's Day. Do you have a special outfit for today?

Color blocking with winter brights

Jacket- thrifted; shirt- JCPenney (clearance); pants- TJMaxx;
earrings - JCPenney (clearance-$7.00) necklace and shoes- Target

Two things popular this winter are brights and color blocking. I did both with this outfit. I'm happy too that this trend will continue in the spring. What about you? Do you like color blocking.
