Winter brights

Worn Jan. 9, 2015

I knew I could pair these pants with something other than black and white. How about an all out bright outfit to break up the winter greys? Are you sick of winter yet? Some of us get all excited about sweater, scarves and boots, and then quickly get tired of the layers and long for the shorts and tees. I'm still enjoying being able to go out and about without sweating.

It's 2015! I'm still posting outfits from 2014 so not much has changed. I'm still running behind. Even though I wore this as my Christmas eve outfit for work and for a church service that evening, it's neutral enough to wear year round. I was inspired by this outfit to pair these pieces together. Sometimes I overlook the simplest and most obvious outfit choices. Thank goodness for pinterest and all of you who provide inspiration for me. I didn't go with the pearl necklace like the inpiration photo because I've had the Kimberly knock-off on repeat. I'm loving this necklace right now.

Interjecting color

I was told by my coworker last week that I looked "springy". I wasn't going for a spring look. I've got lots of sweaters and scarves to wear before I look forward to spring again, but I was certainly going for warmth with layers. And I'm certainly not afraid to interject a little color into a winter day.

The last time I wore this patterned shirt, I wore it by itself in a casual outfit. This time I made it part of my business attire.

Dots and stripes

I wore this outfit over a week ago on a day that was extremely wet and rainy. It wasn't hot or cold, but really unpredictable as how the rain would affect the feel of the temperature. I don't really have a need for rain boots, so I don't own any, but the rare day like this make dressing difficult. It seemed too hot for tall boots, but I wanted to keep my feet covered and dry. Most of my booties are suede with the exception of this pair. So this pair was the choice and the outfit was built from the bottom up. I wanted to wear a blazer to keep it dressy but not wear work clothes. Solution- boyfriend jeans. They work as the perfect casual mixer with a blazer. While I've worn this blazer and top together many times, the switch on the bottom to boyfriend jeans and booties made this a whole new outfit.

Here's a previous business attire version (not the exact same shirt, but similar, same blazer):

I hope everyone had a great holiday and didn't overspend on Black Friday. I did Christmas shopping right here in the comfort of my home onlinr in my pajamas and then did some much needed work in my home office/craft room so that decorating, gift wrapping and such will go much easier. I didn't get around to posting the last two days of last week. The travel and holiday buzz and preparations for Christmas seem to take over my time.

Below is today's verse from The Daily Bible Verse.  The commentary points out that we spend according to our passions. What does your spending say about your heart? I think the same goes for time. How you spend your time reveals much about what's importance to your heart. I think this is a much needed gentle reminder of where we should focus during this upcoming season.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
– Matthew 6:19-20 (NIV)

The last of the tired week

Blazer/ pants - Gap blazer option
blouse- Loft option option
necklace- thrifted option
bracelets- gifts option option
Worn August 13, 2014

I try not to complain much here, but I titled this post the way I did because I had such a hard week last week when I wore this outfit. I hope I don't have a week like that again anytime soon.

I am growing tired of my wardrobe but I know there are many combinations left in it. When this block hits, I turn to mixing basics. I've worn this top a couple of ways already, but saw an ad that made me think I need to try it with my black and navy suits. I picked the black one first. I think it will look better with navy. It's hard to tell what color it is. Due to lighting it looks more blue here, but other times it looks grey.

Have a great weekend!

Just a very casual outfit for errands on a Saturday. I tried to punch it up with some bright accessories.

Totally off topic- my otherwise fierce courageous beautiful shephard is afraid of thunder and lightning. It has stormed for the last two nights and she has barked, whined, and yelped for hours during the night. I'm so sleepy right now I can barely type. Any advice?

Striped shirt - 3 ways

                                         1                           2                         3

Who doesn't love stripes? I'm sure there is someone out there who doesn't, but there are many of us who deem them a "must have" wardrobe item. Today I'm featuring a simple blue striped Gap tee and three ways I've worn it. It's been great for summer and late winter/early spring. Click on the numbers above for the individual outfit details.
