Camel and navy

There's just something about camel and navy that make it a classic winter combination. Add plaid to the mix and it's definitely screaming winter. These pieces made for a comfy and cozy, yet polished office look. It was a great way to start this week on Monday. But I'm still glad today is Friday.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I guess we are looking forward to another weekend indoors cleaning and organizing. Funny how a new year brings that on.

Fair isle prints have been around for a long time but seem to be really popular this season. I've seen lots of fair isle looks on bloggers this week. I promise I'm not just jumping on the fair isle blogger bandwagon. I wore this Sunday to run errands. I've had this sweater for a couple of years, but this is the first time it's made the blog. Too often it's dark when I change into more casual clothes in the evening, so some of my outfits just never make the blog.

It was actually cold enough for another layer, so I threw this light field jacket on over my sweater. I like the navy/burgundy combination with the pink and grey peeking out.

Did you know there really is a place called Fair Isle? And the origins of these knitting patterns can be traced there.

A touch of serenity

Blazer- Ann Klein via Lord and Taylor  option  option
blouse- Loft  option  option
pants- Loft
shoes- Payless  option option
purse- Belks  option  option  option
necklace- JCP option option
earrings - Sears  option  option

A great purse or satchel in serenity is an easy way to add a touch of the color of the year to your wardrobe. I couldn't resist pairing this purse against the harder stellar blue and grey in my outfit. And who says you can't wear white in winter? I love this blazer as much for winter as I do summer. I ordered three pair of these pants from Loft during one of their holiday sales. So far I love them, but they are a heavier weight and I won't be able to wear them year round. Sad about that.

Don't forget that Savvy Southern Chic is now on Instagram. I'd love for you to follow me. You'll get a peeks of style, food, and maybe occasionally something crafty. I'd love to get back into scrapbooking this year. Do you have a hobby you've forsaken and would like to get back into this year?

It's all her fault

Sleeveless blazer- Banana Republic (sold out)  option  option   option

I know that many of you are plowing snow right now, so you're probably wondering why I'm in short sleeves. You see, it was 80 degrees everyday from Christmas to New Years and I wore this last week after picking the vest up from the tailor. It was perfect for the weather we were having. If I wear this vest this week, I'll be layering it over a turtleneck since it was 45 degrees this morning and is supposed to be 30 tomorrow.

And who's fault is it anyway? Rachelle at pink sole kept blogging about it this vest and the last time she did I noticed it was on major sale. It's one of those pieces I admire for a while yet it intimidates me as to how to style it, so I definitely won't pay full price for it. I ended up getting it for $7.41 after discounts and rewards, and even with a trip to a tailor (it runs large and sizes were limited by the time I made up my mind)  it's only a $17.41 investment. Rachelle also gave lots of ways to style it, so I took the plunge. If I can get past being intimidated, I know it will be a great work piece, because I pretty much have to wear an outer garment most days and sleeveless is much cooler.

What to wear with brown pants part two

Cardigan- JCP  similar  option
blouse- JCP similar

shoes- TJMaxx similar  option

My original post on what to wear with brown pants generated a lot of views, largely thanks to a link from Inside Out Style. In that post, I'm wearing these pants with a purple cardigan and burgundy shoes. Another color that looks great with brown is a soft blue. I think navy works too, but I really like the softer blues with brown, particularly a color close to Serenity, the Pantone color of the year. I got a jump on that by purchasing this cardigan last year in the fall. One of the colors in the print of this blouse is a soft blue, so I knew this would work perfectly.

I hope your new year is going well. If you are like me, you are going back to work today after a few days off and a slower time, facing a full on busy schedule. Let's just take it one day at a time. It will be Friday before you know it.

Saturday shopping - Nordstrom sale picks

Nordstrom sale picks

Happy Saturday! I hope your new year is going well so far. There are a couple of days left to shop the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale, so I thought I'd share some of my picks. These are based on some similar items I have that work well for my wardrobe and a couple of things that are just for fun. Whether you're getting much needed basics or a few splurges, sale time is always the best time to make these purchases.

Tweed coat- This will go with everything, casual and business outfits.
Pleione top- Love these. They can be paired for casual wear (as seen here) , or dressed up for work ( as seen here).
Earrings- why not?
Cowl neck tunic- great with leggings. I love a cowl neck and this color is irresistible.
Riding boots- I have these in the wide calf size. Comfortable. (Styled here.)
Tote- I use one everyday to get my stuff to and from work.
Cardigan- throw it on over that Pleione top.
Poncho- Always a fun winter piece.
Ankle booties- this style goes well with both casual and dressier outfits.
Glitter Toms- 'cause we can always use a little sparkle in our day.

Happy Shopping.

Undecided

Jacket- Old Navy   option  option  option
tee- TJMaxx  option  option   option
skirt- Dorothy Perkins  option  option  option
shoes- Clark's   similar   option
hat- Nordstrom  option   option   option   option
necklace- JCrew Factory  option  option   option

Undecided. That's not a good way to start a new year. Most people are full of decisions, goals,  resolutions, etc, yet here I am starting off by saying I'm undecided. You see, I'm very  undecided about this outfit. The one thing I'm sure of is the new Chelsea boots. I eyed them for a while all over the net and then decided I wanted a pair, so these were part of my Christmas gift from my husband. These are so comfortable. Styling them in a way that looks best on me may be a bit of a challenge.

I love that this outfit is composed of all basics that most everyone should have in their closet- a black skirt, grey tee, and denim jacket. I've seen looks like this on others, to include the skirts with the Chelsea boots, but my first impression upon seeing these photos was that I look a bit like a bag lady. Maybe the skirt isn't the right length. Maybe I'd like the skirt/boots look better with some tights ( but mother nature isn't cooperating for me to wear tights). I just don't know. Sometimes you just can't put your finger on what needs to be tweeked. So... I welcome your comments and suggestions.

I hope you have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
