Summer brights

Cardigan- Old Navy; dress- old;
belt- Target; shoes- TJMaxx
worn July 8, 2013

This is a really old sheath dress that I've kept in my closet forever. I'm finally able to wear it again, so I wore it to work, to court. So much for being conservative. Perhaps I should have left off the earrings and necklace and went for something a little simpler. At least the shoes didn't blind or offend anyone.

On another note, I need another hole in my belt so I can cinch it up at my real waist. It's creating a "roll" that I promise I don't have on my body.

Casual capris

Cardigan- Target (similar); Tank/capris- Cato (similar);
shoes- Old Navy (similar); earrings- Limited
Worn July 28, 2013

I purchased this cardigan early in the summer or late spring with my mind set on finding some coral/orange capris or shorts. It never happened. But a few weeks ago I found this tank and capris on clearance and they work perfectly. The capris will go with many other pieces and can be dressed up or down.

Looking back at this now, I should have added a necklace. What kind would you have accessorized this with? I'd love to hear, please share in the comments.

One time affair

Shirt- Ralph Lauren/Macys'; capris- Belks;
shoes- JCPenney; purse- Tommy - thrifted;
necklace- Target
worn April 26, 2013 (P.M.)

Loved this outfit, but sadly, it's a one time affair. Since I've lost weight, the pants are too big and by the end of the night, they were about to fall off. The shoes were brand new, and cut into the back of my legs. When I tried them on, I didn't notice that they hit at a weird place, but they do. The pants and shoes went into the Goodwill pile as soon as I got home that night.

Patterned pencil skirt

Blazer- Cato; blouse (?old);
skirt- JCPenney
necklace- Target; shoes- Payless (similar)
worn April 23, 2013

The more I look at my photos, the more I see that I've been drawn to cool blue and green colors this spring and summer. Maybe it's a search for some peace and calm. We could use it.

I've worn this skirt several times before- HERE and HERE. This time I went with a white blouse to make it more of  a spring/summer look.

Goodbye summer

shirt/ vest- Old Navy; shorts- Wal-mart;
shoes- Target; brooch- Whippy Cake
worn Sept. 29, 2012

Most of you aren't looking for summer outfit inspiration anymore, but this is more of what I still wear in the fall. It stays hot through September and most of October here, and I wore this over a month ago.  I was also sneeking in my houndstooth flats again. Just this week the temperature has dipped, so I hope I can finally say goodbye to summer. I wanted to go ahead and post this to show off my Whippy Cake brooch.  I won a giveaway. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to wear it as a hair accessory at my age, but I'll sure wear it as a brooch.

On vacation

shirt-old (Chadwicks); tank- Old Navy; shorts- TJMaxx
shoes- Payless
Worn Oct. 5, 2012

We took a vacation a couple of weeks ago and I got the hubby to take these photos on the deck of the Corolla Inn, Corolla, NC. It was a little breezy, but you still get the gist of the outfit- shorts, a gingham shirt, tank, and comfy shoes for sightseeing. This shirt is the first thing I thought of pairing with these shorts when I bought them. I've learned to mentally go through my closet and decide if I have other pieces to work with an item before a purchase.

Sorry I've been a little amiss with posting lately. We've been catching up from our trip away and getting ready for Halloween. It's a big event at our house so we've been busy building props and decorating.

Who knew?

Blazer- JCPenney; Blouse- ? old; Pants- TJMaxx
shoes- ? Old
Worn August 17, 2012

Who knew white would be so hard to photograph? Who knew white on white would look so good? Not me. During that slump when I turned to Pinterest for inspiration, I found these looks which inspired my look above.

Pinterest inspired

Blazer, blouse- thrifted; pants- Sears;
 shoes- Famous Footwear
Worn August 7, 2012

Around August I began to run out of outfit ideas but I needed to make my wardrobe stretch through summer. So I did some pinterest searching based on certain items in my wardrobe, like my pink blazer, and came up with this navy and pink combo based on this pin. I'm not crazy about this outfit, but it's okay for work. And I have more ideas for mixing in white with pink and navy from that particular pin as well, so I have ideas for next summer too.

Brights

Blazer- Forever 21, shirt- thrifted
pants- JCPenney; shoes- Payless
Worn August 3, 2012

I'll likely be retiring this pairing soon since summer is officially over, but I'm sure I'll wear it again if bright colors return next summer. I think it's totally acceptable and professional to wear brights to the office. If I stay too conservative, I get bored.

Vines

Dress- Belk's; Shoes- TJMaxx
Worn July 22, 2012

The pattern in this dress reminds me of vines. You can't see too well in these pictures, but it's white and khaki on black. This is a super comfortable knit dress that still looks dressy even though it is knit. It's another one of my favorite summer pieces.

Leopard flats and new haircut

shirt- Old Navy; shorts, belt, shoes- Target
Worn: August 25, 2012

Don't you just love Target? I mean, groceries and cute clothes all at the same time. I recently got these flats for $12 and since it won't be fall here for a couple more months, I'm wearing them with shorts now.

I also got a shorter hair cut last week. I'm normally posting about a month or two behind, so you wouldn't have noticed, but I went ahead and posted these recent pics. The hubby loves it, but I'm not sure it's doing what I want it to yet.

Favorites

skirt, tank, cardigan- Old Navy;
belt- gift; shoes- Wal-mart
Worn June 24, 2012

This is one of my favorite skirts to wear. It's so comfortable and can be mixed with a variety of colors. This is the "original" outfit I came up with when I first got these pieces, but I've worn it other ways since then.

Yellow and grey

Cardigan, dress- Target; sandals- Wal-mart;
necklace- made by me
Worn June 10, 2012

This dress is another item that I have always worn one way- with a black cardigan. I decided to switch up for some more color today and wear a yellow cardigan. I love grey and yellow together.

Perfectly plaid boat shoes

Shirt/shorts- Target;belt- thrifted; shoes- Payless
Worn July 1, 2012

This is probably the most casual outfit I've posted on here. Five days out of the week, I'm dressing for work and for church on Sunday, so that doesn't leave a lot of room for casual. But I do wear casual clothes. And when you're wearing shoes this cute, the rest of the outfit really doesn't matter. These make me smile every time I wear them. I thought they even deserved their own shot!

A garden around my neck

Dress- Target; shoes- Payless;
necklace- Made by me
Worn: May 27, 2012

Getting dressed on a hot summer day couldn't be any easier than a shirt dress. One piece, pull it on, go. Accessorize up or down as you like. That's what I like.
