Plaid dress

Dress- Macys  option    option    option

worn Nov 22 a..m

I warned you a few posts back that there would be an overload of plaid for a bit. Here's yet another plaid item- my plaid shirt dress. I think I'll wear it with a fur vest next.

The cardigan I'm wearing is currently on sale and comes in petite. I have to be careful about proportions so often petite sizes work better for me. Items such as the longer cardigans can be overwhelming and make me feel frumpy but I have been enjoying this one so far.

Happy Hump Day!

Thank goodness it's Friday! It seems like it hasn't slowed down since the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Get prepared for an overload of plaid for the next few posts. I've had several casual events lately and plaid is my fall/winter go to. When it's not all that cold, this shirt is a go to because it's a nice cotton vs a flannel. I paired it with this vest that I thrifted a couple of years ago. I know I sound like a broken record, but I love vests, I just struggle to style them. I used a little pinterest inspiration for this. Plaid and suede shouldn't require inspiration. It works so well it ought to be an instant go to, but I overlook the obvious. Here's a pin to reality shot:

Have a great weekend!

Two for Tuesday: plaid dress two ways

Today I'm showing two ways to wear a plaid shirtdress. I've already worn it the first way, and I'm sure I'll wear the second outfit when I'm in a pinch and need to get out the door quickly. What's easier that a one piece dress and flats? I started with booties and a fringe crossbody bag. This dress is lightweight and the booties and bag give it enough fall flair that I can feel dressed for fall but not sweat in our warm fall temps.

The second way was just a quick change to leopard flats and an olive satchel.

Dress: Tommy Hilfiger/ Macys
purse: Nine West via TJMaxx  option
shoes- Target  option

A plaid dress is a great workhorse to have in your closet for fall and winter. I can wear this dress now and when it's colder, I can add a cardigan, tights, and boots for a totally new look. A dress like this would also be nice with a blazer and pumps for work.

Saturday shopping

I had a different feature planned for this week's Saturday shopping but I couldn't resist all the great sales out there.

Ann Taylor is having 50% off fall must haves with code HELLOFALL
Loft is taking 40% off EVERTHING with code FALL40
Banana Republic is taking 60% off all sale items with code BRSALE

Here are some of my picks

Here are some more things you just can't go wrong with for a fall wardrobe that will be on trend yet wearable year after year:

Ponchos are still in and this stripe poncho sweater from Loft would be a great one to have. I mean it has stripes.

Tweed- always classic yet trendy. Check out this layered tweed shift at Ann Taylor.

Military jacket-   they keep coming back in one form or another. This one is a steal at Banana Republic right now.

Plaid is always in and this olive color utility shirt  is perfect for this season too.

Happy shopping!

Lavender for Easter

Shirt- Liz Claiborne/ JCPenney  option
skirt- old option  total splurge
clutch- thrifted   option  option
shoes- Unlisted/Belk  option
worn April 5, 2015

I wore this for Easter church services and everyone  said you look so "Eastery". Is that a word and does it mean I look like an egg?

These pieces are not part of my capsule. The capsule is work only so weekends and church are free range. I do have a matching jacket for this skirt that made it into the capsule. This set taunts me. It's old (10+ years) but I can still wear it and love it hanging in the closet. I just never know how to wear it other than as a set with a white blouse. Boring to repeat. So the skirt has been salvaged from going to Goodwill by pairing it with this plaid pastel blouse I picked up last year when I realized I didn't have very many pastel shades or "spring" colors in my closet.

Navy and brown/ business to casual

Blazer- Limited  option
sweater- thrifted  option
pants- Loft  option
shoes old  option  option
sneakers (bottom) JCPenney  option  option  option

I've always thought the right shades of navy and brown go together well, so this was an easy outfit to pull together. No pinterest inspiration needed. I just worked off the colors of these plaid pants. These were an impulse spurge last fall. I really didn't need more pants, but they have been a hard working addition. I have a couple of more outfit ideas in mind for them. To challenge myself more, I decided to see if I could dress them down. I typically would only reach for these for a day at the office, but one day I'll retire with a closet full of business attire so maybe I should start thinking more often about whether or not an item can work outside the office. I tossed the blazer and changed the shoes to leopard sneakers, and yes...works as casual for me.

Light colored shoes

I don't normally wear light colored shoes with dark pants. Any thoughts on  that from you guys? I have no problem wearing a colored shoe but otherwise, I tend to stick with dark for dark pants and skirts and light for light pants and skirts. Of course, nude shoes can go with anything, but outside of that, I usually stay with my rule. However, I'm bored with winter and decided maybe I could change the outfits up a bit by rotating through my shoes that haven't been worn. So... this is the result. I like it.

Bundle up

Sweater- Old Navy
scarf- Nordstrom  option  option
jeans- Levis boot cut  option
booties- Target (old) option  option  option
Worn Feb. 14, 2015

After a week of pinks and reds, this is what I actually wore on Valentine's Day. It started with a trip to the doctor at the immediate care for a cold/sinus infection. This is the third one in three months so I was not dragging around two weeks trying to fight this off on my own. I caved and got some antibiotics. I quickly shed the scarf too because it wasn't really cold that afternoon, but if I needed to bundle up, this would get the job done.
