Grey days

If you follow me on Instagram, then you got a sneak peek of this outfit last week, as well as a peek of how I took the top pieces to a casual look with jeans and different booties.

I was in a really down mood last week so I had some literal and figurative "grey days". I guess it's fitting that I wore the color two days in a row. I actually found this to be a cozy and comfortable outfit and I love taking my pencil skirts into winter with tights and booties.

I meant to get a post up last Friday but I took the day off work and spent it doing a major closet purge, and didn't get the post up. I can't say that I have that wonderful feeling everyone talks about with "less is more" and I have so much more room in my closet now. I do have a cleaner and more orderly closet but still not the room I'd like to have. I think the issue is that my whole wardrobe goes in there. Sweaters, sweats, tees, and things like that are in my dresser, but every season is in one of those two places. So, I'm curious- do you switch out the items in your closet season to season and store things? and if so, where do you store them? I don't have room to store items elsewhere and in the South we really only have two seasons, not four. Most of my clothing (75-80%)  can be worn year round so there's no real need to store things. If I did, the attic definitely wouldn't be the place because it gets too hot and humid up there in the summer. Dyes and inks would literally run and my clothes would be ruined. I'd love to hear how you handle your wardrobe and storage.

It's really hard to have a capsule because I have a work wardrobe, and a casual one. I'd really like it if the two could merge more. I did let go of a lot of items that I've tried to force myself to wear over the last couple of years because I just don't love them anymore and having them there thinking I should wear them is stressful. It does feel better to not have them there. Some things will be donated and some of it is being listed on Poshmark. Feel free to check out my closet if you like.

Before we launch it outfits and shopping, I want to say thank you to my readers and followers. Thank you for your kind comments and support. I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving day and got to have some quite down time with family to reflect on what's really important.

Isn't this lace top just gorgeous? Like so pretty you're afraid to wear it for fear you will mess it up? I got this during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It was too hot then to wear it, but I can finally put it in rotation now. While it's pretty for every day, I think the lace detail will make it a pretty holiday top too.

If you are not braving the crowds today and are sitting at home behind the computer like me, then make sure to peruse some of the Black Friday sales. I'm kind of excited that so many things went on sale early this week. No need to be in a mad rush this morning. I've already taken advantage of some things online and in store on Wednesday, so I've got a good chunk of the Christmas list knocked out.

Here are a few of the deals going on and my picks from each:

Ann Taylor has 50% off everything with code CELEBRATE These pearlized brooch earrings would be great for holiday wear and everyday. This ring set would be fun to have too.

JCrew is offering 30-40% offPolka dot pajamas would be perfect for relaxing after the holidays are over.

Everything is on sale at Old Navy, up to 60% off. I've been eyeing the plaid mock neck sweater.

Baublebar if offering 30% off with code THX.  Free shipping and returns is a plus too! This necklace is gorgeous.

Sweater dress

My sweater dress seems to make at least one appearance every fall or winter season. I always seem to find a new way to wear it. I've worn it with a blanket scarf (seen here), tall boots, my fur vest (seen here) and with a statement necklace. Now I'm pairing it with my denim jacket, booties and felt hat. I used to think a piece like this was too plain and limiting but now I'd recommend such a piece. It's easy dressing (just one piece to pull over your head) and then you can layer as much or little as you would like.

I also recently scooped up the Urban Decay Naked on the Run set on sale at Ulta. I got to use a coupon so I got this set for $24. A great deal to try out shadows, liner, bronzer, mascara, blush, and gloss. I've never used their products- sorry, I'm a cheapie drug store make up user, but I do like these and see the value in this set. You can still get a great deal on it and it would make a great gift for someone. My whole look above was done with the palette.

Cobalt again

Since the calendar said it was officially fall, I busted out a pair of booties. These work well for the office, but I rarely wear them casually. You may also remember this cobalt sweater from last September's 30x30 remix.   I wore it four ways during that remix, including pairing it with black slacks. I wore it with a red blazer then. Funny how changing shoes, accessories and your topper, or completer piece (blazer) can make yet another new outfit. If you have some good base pieces, you don't need lots of clothes to have a workable wardrobe.

Saturday shopping - Get your fringe on

Fringe is a hot trend for fall. I'm not sure I'll be going all out but it would be fun to add a piece or two. I already own a poncho with fringe trim but it will be dead of winter here before I can wear that as fall temps will remain in the 80 -90s around here. Here are a few fun fringe picks to shop.

Happy Shopping!

Below is the inspiration for this outfit, found of course on Pinterest.

I had almost forgotten about this cardigan. It belonged to my mother  years ago, so it's fair to say it's vintage. I used to wear it a good bit about ten years ago, but haven't in a while. It's one of those pieces that I've never considered tossing because it has maintained and still in good shape. When I saw the inspiration photo, I was reminded of it. I needed a good warm outfit to wear Friday, so out came the cardigan. And I said to myself, on look , it's marled... right on trend. LOL

I'm running out of ideas for Sunday outfits. I think it's the weather. It's beginning to behave like it's going to transition to spring but it's not quite time.  I pulled some inspiration to pair my vest with a skirt from this pin and pulled the color combo from this one. It was warm enough for bare legs but cool enough for the vest.
