The short story- Saturday shopping

Next weekend will be Memorial Day weekend, and although not the official date for it, for many it marks the kick off of summer. Along with summer comes shorts weather.

I've rounded up some different styles and patterns of shorts for your Saturday shopping. They are all a modest 5 inches or longer. I just don't do "short shorts" at my age anymore. The Old Navy shorts shown are 3 inch inseams, but I've linked up the 5 inch version. See below to find out which ones are on sale.

shorts

Diamond Stripe Riviera Shorts with 6" Inseam • LOFT • $39.99
Pleated Lace-Trim Shorts • $68
Everyday Twill Shorts for Women (5") • Old Navy • $15.15–20
Topstitched 10" Walking Shorts • The Limited • $24.90
Printed 5" Tailored Shorts • The Limited • $24.90
Jacquard 5" Easy Shorts • The Limited • $24.90
Distressed Boyfriend Denim Shorts for Women (5") • Old Navy • $19.97
Seersucker Bermuda Short • $58

I recommend having as essentials for the summer a denim pair of shorts, a white pair, a khaki pair, a floral, and another fun pattern or stripe. You can create endless summer outfits with these in your closet. The longer walking shorts and lace trim shorts are great for creating dressier outfits.

Loft shorts are $25 right now. I recommend stocking up!

Take 40% off at Banana Republic with code BRTAKE40. It's a great time to get those seersucker Bermuda shorts.  Old Navy is also offering 40% off right now.  Stock up on those khaki and denim shorts.  The Limited shorts are on sale right now too at the prices reflected above.

Happy Shopping! Don't forget to check out my current crushes on the side bar too.

Kimono and fedora

Two trendy items I've come to love are the fedora and kimono.  This short length kimono is perfect for petite ladies as it's less likely to overwhelm your frame, particularly when paired with another loose fitting item like boyfriend shorts. You don't want to get lost under your clothes. And well, fedoras are just fun and perfect for a bad hair day.

Summer style

Happy Friday! I'm so glad to have a day off work. I'm recapping a few more Summer Style Challenge outfits today.

Day 9 called for a graphic tee and boyfriend shorts with sneakers.  I don't own lace up sneakers and find tees and denim a little boring without some accessories, so I added my leopard slip on sneakers and fedora with leopard band.  I have a few hats now, and this one is my favorite. It was a $7 clearance purchase for our camping trip last fall, and I love it. It has a very narrow brim and doesn't get in the way. This is also one of my favorite graphic tees. It says "All I really need today are a little coffee and a whole lot of Jesus."

Day 10 called for a chambray top, flowy tank, white shorts, and metallic sandals. It may have been a lace shorts day, but I don't own lace shorts and haven't found an age appropriate length that I care for. This is one of my least favorite outfits of the challenge and I probably would never wear this. I think it would be cuter with shorter shorts, but it just doesn't work for me overall.

Day 12 was lace top with boyfriend shorts + metallic sandals + stud earrings. (I skipped 11- maxi dress + metallic sandals + floppy hat.) The challenge item was a white lace top and I don't own one of those either, but I have this taupe color lace top. I've worn this top with a skirt before and have other ideas for it, but would not have thought of the boyfriend shorts without the challenge prompt. I really liked this outfit.

Have you met my boyfriends?

Have you met my boyfriends? My boyfriend jeans have been on the blog before, but I think this is the first time my boyfriend shorts have been here. I purchased them at the beginning of spring when Old Navy first released summer clothes and have worn them several times. I've worn them with gingham and with a chambray striped top. Those outfits just didn't make it into photos. This is a first with a tank top. Tanks tops are out of my comfort zone, but I do like halter tops when I go sleeveless.

Let's talk about espadrilles for a minute. I've never been drawn to them but these anchor prints won me over. I decided if I was going to invest in a pair, I'd get a little more mileage out these as flats as well. What type of shoe have you ignored and then finally been won over to?
