Happy Halloween! Hope you have a safe and fun day! Let's talk about five essentials for a fall outfit. No matter what climate you live in, there are some essentials that signify it's fall with your outfit. This particular outfit has them all.

THANK YOU to our veterans! Thank you for protecting the freedoms we have, to vote and to disagree. I must say I'm sorely disappointed at the actions of some in our country over this election. It is what it is, whether you agree or not. I don't think our veterans fought for you to have the right to show your behind. To disagree, yes, to be ugly, no. It's disrespectful. So for today, let's set it aside and be thankful we still live where we can vote.

Fall is certainly a great time for a vest! A vest is a fun way to add layers when it's not yet cold enough for a coat or jacket. Denim, utility vest, grey tee, booties, leopard- those are all things fall for me. Scarves, sweaters and tall boots are "fantasy fall" where I live and sometimes even "fantasy winter" lol. So for my fall weather, I keep the layers light and the colors neutral to fall colored. I love these peep toe booties and have been on the hunt for a similar pair in black to add to my collection, maybe with a lower heel.

 

Thank goodness it's Friday! Who would have ever thought I'd say that on a week of vacation? It's our anniversary but instead of our usual vacation, we've spent the week cleaning up after Hermine and Matthew, those naughty boys. As I type, I'm waiting for the carpet installers to show up and install carpet. Then we can move furniture back into that room and hopefully by the end of the weekend the house will be back to normal and clutter free.

I'm beginning to give in to the fact that fall is coming. Actually, I'm dying for the cooler weather to come, but I know it will still be too warm here for full on boots, scarves and sweaters. I'll come straight out and tell you, this outfit was inspired by Lauren at Fizz and Frosting.  I don't have the jeweled tee, but adding a necklace to this one gives it pretty much the same effect. When I saw her outfit, I knew I had to wear this recently thrifted shirt this way. I almost didn't buy this shirt  because I probably have too many long sleeve tees that don't get worn. But who can resist stripes? And now I'm glad I bought it.

We were back into a warming trend last week but it was decent enough Wednesday evening to add the utility vest as a layer. I think it helps make my track pants a little more fall like. This is an outfit that came together because I saw the vest and pants hanging on the clothes line drying together. Have you ever made an outfit from random pieces hanging on your line or lying in the laundery basket together? Maybe that would be a fun challenge sometime- just pull random pieces from the laundry that you didn't originally wear together and create an outfit.

I dressed in this outfit for a family birthday party. The husband says "Do I have to dress up?" Me: Is this dressed up? Husband: "Yes".

 

What do you think? I think it's a fun mix of casual and dress but I wouldn't wear it to a wedding or reception, so it's not my version of dressed up.

A military vest with lace seems an unlikely combination, but in this anything goes world of fashion, it works. The lace keeps the vest and overall look feminine. While the rest of the country was freezing, we were having a heat wave, so yes, I really wore this last Saturday.
