Work to play: 2 pieces 2 ways

I love having pieces that can be worn multiple ways and in multiple settings. Today we are going to talk about taking pieces from work to play, specifically this striped top and mint statement necklace. I'll  also point out a few things that make a piece more versatile.

Dressing up a striped tee

Grab a power suit and throw it on with a striped tee and you've instantly dressed up your tee! Not every striped tshirt will work, but a nice soft one with a fancy trim like this one does the trick. The one I'm wearing is no longer available, but I think this Top Shop tee with crochet trim would look cute peeking out from a suit or blazer.

Currently I'm... calling - my mother. I loved to call my friends as a teenager and tie up the phone line for hours, but now I hate to make phone calls. I do it as required all day at work, but at home I hate to make calls, so my mother is the only one privileged to receive a phone call from me. And occasionally the hubby when I need to communicate to him where I am or what's going on, and then it might just be a text. Are you into making phone calls and chatting it up, or do you communicate with friends and loved ones another way?

Hope your week is progressing nicely. Be sure to check out my Nordstrom sale work wear picks.

Stripes, sunnies and panama

I've paired just about all of my favorites in one laid back outfit- stripes, sunnies, panama hat, and boyfriend shorts. One of the easiest outfits ever. Almost like wearing pajamas. And these double strap slide sandals- like slippers but they do nothing to flatter my legs. I really need a little heel on them. Maybe I should replace them with these.

Hope your week is going well.

Stripes and wedges

I'm in love with this faux knot tee. I love this color combination and this tee is super soft and comfy.  It's still on sale and there are several colors. I also love how comfortable these wedges are. I think this is the third time you've seen them now- #sorrynotsorry. These wedges may become my new go to or at least a close second to my beige wedges.

This is just really a jeans and tee outfit. But there's something about adding a scarf and fun shoes that makes you feel cute. My inspiration for this comes once again from Bridgette RaesThis post on how to wear Keds reminded me of my striped tee, anchor scarf, and red shoes. I've worn the shoes and scarf together before but I had not thought about pairing them with this tee.

I know it looks a little summery but it's still warm in places and I was visiting the Cape Henry lighthouse when I wore this, so the nautical approach seemed appropriate and I was glad for the weather to allow me to wear this. And as is typical, just a few days later the temps dropped, so you'll be seeing tall boot outfits soon.  The cooler temps are supposed to hold out for about three days, then we'll be back in the 80s.

Not my signature

If you are a regular reader, then you probably recognized right away that this is not my signature look. Nonetheless, sometimes it's fun to try a different look. I started out with booties but they just weren't comfortable so I switched to my sneakers. I love these shoes and they have been a go to for "off duty" casual attire lately. Once I went with the sneakers, I decided what the heck, since I've got a sporty thing going on with the stripes and sneaks, I may as well throw on the beanie. I do like to wear a beanie once in a while in the winter, but I'm not so sure it really looks all that good on me. Maybe I'm too old for it. I was going to be outside in the cold night air, so the beanie stayed, regardless of looks. Sometimes function wins over fashion.

Casual Friday

Cardigan- Old Navy option
shirt- Target option  option
jeans- Loft
shoes- Ann Klein via Belks  similar option
necklace- gift

There's no such thing as casual Friday at my work, but that doesn't mean I can't post a casual outfit on Friday. I put this together to create a fall look that would withstand the continuing summer temps. Since neutrals and grey are popular this year, I went with grey and navy. I'm not sure if I really like the overall results. It looks a little bland to me. There is a secret to wearing neutrals and not looking blah. I'll let you know when I find out. What we can take away from this is a formula that will get you out the door quickly- jeans/pants + tee+cardigan+long necklace+flats. Always works for casual but the cardigan and necklace will make it look like you put in a little effort.
