Thoughts on pastels

I could not wait any longer to break out of the winter routine and wear something with a spring touch, so I pulled out these pieces last week. I'm not sure that this really "worked." Do you have that issue with outfits? You know what you are going for, but it just doesn't work? I couldn't decide what would make it work, so you have three versions- blouse tucked/open jacket, blouse tucked/closed jacket, and untucked and open jacket. First off, I think it would work better with cream or ivory pants or white pants, but I don't have any. I need to fix that because every time I try to think up a spring ensemble, one of those color pants comes to mind as a base, especially if there is a lot of pastel up top, like this.

Which brings me to my thoughts on pastels... My co-worker complimented me and said I looked all "Eastery". Wait, was that a compliment? Did she mean I looked like an Easter egg? That's my fear and dislike of pastels, that I will look like an Easter egg. I like pastels done right in small doses with other neutrals, but too many, is... well, just an Easter egg. I guess I just like "summer brights" better.

What are you thoughts? What would make this work, or should I just scrap it? What do you think about pastels?

I love to look at the "outfits we love" ads at Old Navy/Gap/BR. For some reason I kept overlooking this one, thinking I had no interest in it and no reason to purchase any similar piece. Then it hit me- I already own similar pieces. I purchased this jacket at Old Navy a few years back and rarely wear it as I have viewed jackets as "outer wear only" in the past and not part of an outfit. That view is changing.

I paired my version with these particular shoes because we were headed to the beach to look for sea glass balls/treasures (literally, sea glass balls hidden on Jekyll Island by locals for the public to find) and I did not think my suede booties would fair well there. I do think the outfit as a whole would look better with booties. And no, we didn't find a treasure.

Remixing

Nothing spectacular here. Probably one of those days I was just grateful to be dressed. You've seen these pieces before. I just mixed in a different blouse than what I'd normally wear with the pants and jacket.

On another note, so glad today is Friday!

Pinstripes and ballet flats

I changed up the colors a little but I love the relaxed look of a button up, jeans, flats, and a blazer. The problem is I don't totatally love this blazer. I love it on the hanger and it has some great detail, but I don't love it on me. I've decided it works better with jeans than to try and force it to be a "business dress" piece, but I'm still not happy. I think it's the fit I'm not happy with but I'm not sure if I can have it tailored.

Well worn

Jacket, shirt- TJMaxx; skirt- Belk's
Boots- shoes.com, necklace- Belk's
Worn: Jan. 31, 2012

These pieces have been in my closet for about six years now and have been well worn. The top and jacket have always been worn together. I sometimes switch out the brown skirt for brown or khaki pants. Maybe I need to work on some more ways to wear the jacket. Any suggestions?

The birdcage necklace was another fun clearance purchase I made with a gift card I received for Christmas.

Neutrals

Jacket, shirt- thrifted; pants- JCPenney;
shoes- Payless
Worn: Jan. 26, 2012

Nothing exciting about these colors, but these pieces alone and together have become some of my favorites. I've really enjoyed this shirt. The fact that I have less than $20 in all three pieces makes it all the better.

Military inspired

Jacket- Sears ($7-clearance); shirt and jeans- Old Navy;

Inside pictures because it was dark outside. We were going on our Friday night outing. I pulled out this jacket I bought a few months back and new jeans and shirt purchased during the Black Friday sales. Yes, it took me a while to get around to wearing them.

How long do new clothes hang in your closet before you wear them?
