Transitioning with gingham

How do you transition to fall when it's still 90 degrees outside? With a dark color but lightweight gingham button up and a skirt, of course! Add some leopard flats and you've got instant fall vibes. Even thought I consider leopard a year round neutral, I turn to it more in the fall. Had it not been 90 degrees out, I might have gone with more of a fall twist with booties, a felt hat and a bandana scarf at the neck, but I'm sure I would have turned heads, and for the wrong reasons, in our town had I done that. Most folks haven't given up shorts and tee shirts yet.

How do you transition to fall?

Shopping day outfit

Blouse- Ralph Lauren (thrifted)  option  option
jeans- Loft
shoes- Payless   option  option  option
necklace- online boutique  splurge   option  option

I had a day off last week for an out of town doctor's appointment. I knew I would be dressing and undressing so a casual button up was the way to go. Plus, doctor visits are no fun so I had to reward myself with a little shopping afterwards, and button ups make trying on clothes easier for me. No pulling shirts over the head and worrying about getting make-up on them. Easy slip on ballets flats,  a long necklace that slips easily over the head and comfy jeans complete a shopping outfit. A crossbody bag also makes hands free shopping. My bag isn't pictured because it bit the dust that day. It was promptly replaced with a new saddlebag crossbody (similar to this one in tobacco).

Speaking of shopping, I walked the mall but only made two purchases- these shorts from Loft (still 50% off)  and these (in tearose, they're still on sale too) from JCPenney. You can see these from JCPenney on Instagram now and hopefully I'll be styling the striped ones soon.

A whole mall- and nothing really spoke to me. I guess I'm happy with my current wardrobe or just unwilling to pay full prices. I don't know. Shopping in store didn't do much for me although I have since stalked some store websites for sales on a couple of things that did catch my eye. I just found it odd that I had money saved up and spent less than $50. Maybe it just took that day to get the creative juices flowing.  Hubby and I hit a Tanger outlet last weekend and I had a field day in the Loft outlet. I've also made some Old Navy rewards purchases from the local store, but I think I've come to the conclusion that I like online shopping better than in store. What about you? How do you like to shop?

Easter gingham

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter and had their fill of eggs, real or chocolate. I didn't get around to getting a new outfit so I just put some old pieces together in a new way. I love green and pink together and have been meaning to wear this blouse (last seen here) with this skirt (seen with green here). Easter seemed like the perfect time for it.

Have you seen my round up of gingham? It's popular pattern for this Spring.

Last week I mentioned the 16 most wearable spring trends as outlined by Glamour. Gingham is one of those trends. I don't wear it often but I do have a couple of shirts in this fun pattern. Here are 12 gingham picks.

If you think this trend is not for you, give it a try in small doses with the socks or bracelet.
If you have no shame decking  out it in, then snatch up that adorable blazer.
If you'd rather keep it away from your body, then wear gingham on your feet in some cute sneakers or rain boots.

Happy Shopping!

Saturday shopping: gifts for the homebodies

Do you have a homebody on your list? Or just someone who deserves a day of relaxing? These items will fit the bill.

gifts for homebodies

If your homebody is the casual type, they can still be casual and stylish in these gingham check pajamas. (40% off at Loft with code BF40). These fun slippers and pom pom blanket will keep the mood light. Don't forget the coffee and a fun mug.

If your homebody is a little more posh, then give them a comfy robe and these fluffy Ugg slippers. A faux fur throw and a Kate Spade gold striped mug will make them feel all the more luxurious.

Saturday shopping

I had a different feature planned for this week's Saturday shopping but I couldn't resist all the great sales out there.

Ann Taylor is having 50% off fall must haves with code HELLOFALL
Loft is taking 40% off EVERTHING with code FALL40
Banana Republic is taking 60% off all sale items with code BRSALE

Here are some of my picks

Here are some more things you just can't go wrong with for a fall wardrobe that will be on trend yet wearable year after year:

Ponchos are still in and this stripe poncho sweater from Loft would be a great one to have. I mean it has stripes.

Tweed- always classic yet trendy. Check out this layered tweed shift at Ann Taylor.

Military jacket-   they keep coming back in one form or another. This one is a steal at Banana Republic right now.

Plaid is always in and this olive color utility shirt  is perfect for this season too.

Happy shopping!

Gingham and floral

Shirt- TJMaxx  option  option
dress- old- Old Navy  option  option
shoes- Old Navy  option  option  option
necklace- Target  option
earrings- Belk  option
worn Sept. 13, 2015

When it comes to print mixing, I love gingham and floral prints together. This shirt paired perfectly with this tiny floral print dress. Our temps took a 15- 20 degree drop over the weekend, so this was the perfect Sunday outfit for a beautiful day. Warm, but not hot, with a tease of fall coming.

I would have normally went for blue or green accessories with an outfit like this but I chose a white bead necklace and a pair of yellow bead earrings. The yellow makes a nice little pop of color with the green and blue.
